Description

The Technical Writer is responsible for the document management of the organization's written policies and procedures to ensure all documentation accurately reflects current operating practices. Key activities include the review of the current documentation and the creation of new documentation based on the evolving needs of our functional business areas. They will incorporate guidance from stakeholders to ensure that the content, format, and methods of documentation conform to the required standards. Where documentation is missing or outdated, the Technical Writer will be accountable for creating new documentation or revising and updating existing materials. Where necessary, this role will undertake research to detail the procedures and define accountabilities. Once implemented, they will maintain all policy, procedure, record, systems specifications or manual/guide and work instruction documents to reflect SCU's business operating policies and procedures and enable consistent performance and outcomes. This role works with all business units to revise, refine, and/or create the required documentation that is made available within departments and across the company as reference publications.

Requirements

What will you be doing? 

  • Research, write or edit detailed standards documentation, standard operating procedures, policies, user guides, operator manuals, technical reference manuals, etc., to maintain effectiveness and consistency pertaining to various operations throughout the organization.
  • Work with documentation owners and subject matter experts to collect and standardize relevant technical and operational knowledge. Assist with the development of documentation requirements for new and/or changing business processes, including the need for any forms required to support the business procedure.
  • Maintain and revise technical documentation and procedures to reflect current processes and changes as needed. Keep track of controlled documents. Review, revise and proofread policies, procedures and guidelines that are developed by internal staff for accuracy, clarity and consistency with language and format, consistent with other documents.

Qualifications:

  • One to three years of similar or related experience.
  • A two-year college degree, completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors. 
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary policy writing practices and guidelines (e.g., AMA writing guidelines, APA formatting and style guide, revision control).
  • Experience with technical and business writing, including publishing, and expertise in documenting business policies and processes.

This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary starting at $20.77/hour depending on experience, education and qualifications.
