The RoleThe Individual Giving Manager is responsible for directing SOS Children’s Villages Illinois (SOS Illinois) individual giving program, with a personal portfolio focused on donors up to $10K level. Responsibilities of this role include planning individual giving campaigns, serving as writer and communications strategist for individual donor-facing communications, supporting donor events with the advancement team, and supporting overall department operations to ensure effective use of data in driving individual giving strategy.
Responsibilities
  • Builds and manages a personal portfolio of 75-100 donors and prospects qualified to make individual gifts to support SOS Illinois' annual and long-term needs, including researching potential new donors and best outreach strategies for engagement.
  • Creates and implement a customized individual giving growth plan and program for SOS Illinois to include direct mail, digital giving, and other individual donor pipeline building activities with a goal of creating a robust pool of individual donor prospects.
  • Develops and implements comprehensive fundraising strategies to increase the organization’s philanthropic support from individuals through innovative ideas, effective implementation, and analysis of impact; i.e., SOS Illinois’ “Dream Maker” fund program.
  • Sources new donors and cultivates authentic and genuine relationships with them to allow them to accomplish their philanthropic goals through a best-in-class donor relations experience with SOS Illinois
  • Assesses potential donors for value alignment with SOS Illinois, researching and developing cultivation strategies.
  • Creates specific plans, strategies and tactics for donor acquisition, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship throughout the year along with the Chief Advancement Officer.
  • Acts as project manager to track fundraising portfolio management activities in Raiser’s Edge and provide monthly analytic reporting.
  • Partners with the marketing/communications and events staff to plan for direct donor communications via newsletters and social media, and other messaging strategies.
  • Manages and drives execution of the individual giving stewardship program, from standard acknowledgement letters to high-touch activities that acknowledge extraordinary giving.
  • Plans and executes a variety of donor events, including open house, village events, and annual events
  • Helps interpret giving motivations and guidelines for individual donors (stated and otherwise) and proactively engage colleagues across the organization for information collecting.
  • Provides administrative and clerical support to Advancement team, including data entry/manipulation and communications via telephone and email.
  • Coordinates and executes the acknowledgement and receipt process. Enter donations received by phone, mail, or online and prepare acknowledgement letters and other correspondence on a daily basis.
  • Produces daily batches/reports to submit fundraising revenue to Finance Dept.
  • Assists with the preparation of solicitation kits, meeting agenda materials, conference calls, logistical arrangements and minutes for committee meetings.
  • Coordinates elements of the annual giving program including pulling mailing lists, monitoring online giving process, email solicitations, recurring giving club, and analyzing data and segments.
  • Works with vendors as appropriate for direct mailing, online giving, online events, etc.
  • Produces letters and envelopes for mass mailings including solicitations and event mailing lists.
  • Produces electronic mailing lists using queries in Raiser’s Edge and email solicitations using Blackbaud’s Online Express email tool.
  • Works with Advancement teams to track events, guests, donations, ticket sales, in-kind donors, etc., in addition to ensure proper acknowledgments are sent.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Commitment to SOS Children’s Villages Illinois philosophy and mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree required and three-four years’ experience working in a non-profit fundraising office preferred in administrative and database management, or equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Experience in Raiser's Edge required.
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent skill and understanding of computer and constituent software required.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and to work nights and weekends, as required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively to achieve common goals; support cooperation, collaboration and the sharing of information while providing the best quality product available and continuously upgrade standards to maintain quality, in all areas of responsibility.
  • Understanding of volunteer and relationship management.
  • Openness to new ideas and their implementation. Ability to react and adapt to changing situations appropriately.
  • Ability to listen carefully to and understand constituents’ needs, both internally and externally, and proactively respond to those needs in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Organizational and computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials with integrity.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to provide required DCFS Medical Report/TB test.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license with acceptable driving record; insured and reliable transportation.
  • Sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and staff.
  • Ability to relate to the Agency staff and to the public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to work in an alcohol, tobacco, drug, and firearm-free environment.
