Job PurposeThe purpose of this position is to maintain the department's HVAC and refrigeration systems in accordance with industry standards and local, State, and Federal Codes. Provide maintenance and timely repairs of the department's HVAC and refrigeration systems to ensure comfort and maximum efficiency. Performs technical work in the installation, maintenance, and operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and/or the maintenance of building automated energy management systems (EMS).
Job ResponsibilitiesProvides maintenance on all agency-wide HVAC Systems, including but not limited to installations, repairs, overhauls, and maintenance of the department's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
Duties include assessment and diagnosis of complete HVAC systems or individual components.
Components include control valves, condensers, evaporator coils, relays, motors, and other devices related to commercial and residential HVAC and refrigeration equipment operation.
Serves as the lead and provides instruction and guidance to maintenance staff in repairing and maintaining HVAC systems and refrigeration equipment.
Provides on-call and general maintenance assistance as needed and is the quality control lead with outside HVAC contractors or other maintenance providers.
Maintains and provides all SCDJJ Facilities with quality Energy Management and Control Systems Equipment.
Maintains valid EPA-type universal EPA-approved (CFC) Freon Recovery Certification.
Maintains valid driver's license.
Performs Other Related Job Duties As Assigned.Minimum and Additional RequirementsState Minimum RequirementsHigh school diploma and experience in installing and maintaining HVAC systems or operating and maintaining HVAC mechanical and building control systems. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis.
Additional RequirementsWorking knowledge of tools/equipment/materials used in general building maintenance.
Thorough knowledge and skill of the tools, equipment, and materials used in HVAC troubleshooting, maintenance, installation, and repairs.
Must have and maintain a valid type of universal Freon Recovery Certification.
Knowledge of troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and maintaining HVAC systems.
Work includes refrigeration compressors, split and packaged heating and air conditioning systems, control valves, condenser coils, filters, motors, switches, and other devices related to commercial/residential type heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. The employee may have direct and direct contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications PREFERRED AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: A High School Diploma and two years of verifiable experience in HVAC repair. Have and maintain an EPA-approved chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Freon recovery certification, type universal. Employees must have and maintain valid driver's license. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year
