What you will do: As a Tax Specialist in our Income Tax Services area, you will ensure compliance with South Carolina and federal tax laws by analyzing and adjusting Income Tax returns in a fair, consistent, and accurate manner.
Primary Job Duties Include
  • Reviewing and auditing tax returns and making any adjustments needed to ensure taxpayer compliance with federal and state tax laws.
  • Communicating with taxpayers to explain return adjustments.
  • Staying up-to-date on tax law changes and on knowledge of our internal tax systems.
  • Making recommendations to improve existing processes.
EitherMinimum and Additional Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses (Transcripts required. Attach to application or email to employment@dor.sc.gov .) OR
  • A bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and/or analysis. OR
  • An associate’s degree and three years of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and/or analysis. OR
  • Relevant experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR)
Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Twelve semester hours in accounting, audit, or other business-related subjects
  • Basic knowledge of SC tax laws and forms and on-line computer systems

  • Hours: Flexible hours may be available from 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week)
  • Telework schedule: This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week.
