South Central Health System is Hiring an EEG TECHNICIAN Near Laurel, MS

Provides direct and indirect patient care in the assigned setting. Communicates with physicians, nurse/Nurse manager and co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patient clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Demonstrates proficiency at performing Neurology Diagnostic Testing with standard and advanced EEG (Electroencephalogram) monitoring and long Term Epilepsy Video Monitoring as well as other diagnostic testing within the Neurology and Cardiology department utilizing departmental policies/procedures and/or protocols with adjust approach and testing based on Patient Population Specific Competency.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum EducationGraduate of an accredited school in EEG and/or Level II Registered EEG Technologist or Level I EEG Technologist .
High School Graduate with OJT with a minimum of two years experience in EEG and/or Cardiac Ultrasound with proven job skills in EEG and related field
Required LicensesCardiovascular Technologist and Technician
Preferred Certification and/or Registry in EEGBLS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Knowledge of EEG (Electroencephalogram) standard and long Term Epilepsy Video Monitoring as well as EMG (Nerve Conduction Study)
Adheres to training regarding ethical responsibilities and confidentiality
Provides patients with a complete explanation of procedures or treatments
Follows American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (SCNS) International System guidelines for measurement and electrode application
Performs EEGs in the Intensive Care Unit, EEG lab or other hospital units understanding the special technical requirements of these areas and able to modify procedures to these specific areas
Possesses skills and cognitive abilities in videography
Understands recording parameters, i.e., live EEG data and trending screens techniques, clipping, pruning and archiving of LTM data
Performs standard EEG testing independently in a highly skilled, patient appropriate manner, recognizes normal and abnormal results and recognizes and takes reasonable steps to eliminate artifact
Skilled in EEG pattern recognition and can provide a technical description to the physician or nursing staff caring for the patient
Able to work with Neurologist in a one on one environment for diagnostic preliminary result consultation as well as a liaison between physicians, hospital staff and the patients
Understands computer operations and networking with uploading of diagnostic preliminary result applicable, sufficient to do basic trouble shooting/report to Information Technology Support Services
Ability to schedule and perform a complete admission assessment to include patient's health history, problems identified, patient teaching, and discharge needs/expectations
Demonstrates knowledge of the central nervous system, diseases related to Neurodiagnostic medicine, and Instrumentation
Conforms to all policies and procedures regarding any diagnostic test within the Neurology and Cardiology department guidelines
Documents, archives and charges for all diagnostic procedures within the hospital computer system and all documentation and charges meets current standards and policies
Maintains all instrumentation in excellent working order, checking calibration, making minor adjustments and repairs with assistance if needed by Bio-Med and/or manufacturer
Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment according to manufacture and Infection Control Policies
Promotes positive teamwork within the Neurology and Cardiology department
On Call consultation and/or necessary call back for patient adjustment of diagnostic testing and set up
Participates in sharing of knowledge and expertise through in-service, staff meetings, and assisting as preceptor with orientation of any new personnel and/or fellow personnel
Stocks laboratory with supplies and linens as indicated and assist with inventory or maintenance of supplies
Continues education and/or registration by participating in education classes, conferences and technical meetings
Performs any assigned and/or related duties as required by Coordinator and Director
Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Manager, co-workers, and physicians
Consults other departments as appropriate for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs
Demonstrates a cost effective practice by efficient and non-wasteful use of supplies and linen, always following established procedures for charge items
Utilizes infection control policies/procedures
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations
Understands and assumes responsibility for charge position when assigned, to include patient assignment according to patient acuity and staff mix
Displays a positive attitude toward the hospital and his/her profession while displaying appropriate time management skills in the planning and administering of patient care
Actively participates in the department's performance improvement activities
