Job Description: Staff Accountant
Department: Accounting 9400
Job Class#: 716
Minimum qualifications for this position: Bachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA or Master's Degree preferred. Three years' experience in healthcare finance or related field. Must be able to communicate, read, write, and understand verbal and written instructions
Basis function: This position is the primary resource for financial statement preparation and maintenance of general ledger account balances.
Provides timely and accurate monthly and annual financial statements.
Coordinate the balancing of general ledger accounts accurately and timely.
Ensures that all financial data is obtained and reported accurately and timely. All external financial reporting is made in accordance with the appropriate standards for the report.
Provide well-organized, complete and accurate journal entries.
Prepare timely, accurate and easily-understood workpapers and reports, including those for audit and budget purposes.
Prepare management reports timely and accurately.
Assist in preparing timely, accurate, and easily-understood departmental financial statements as needed.
As measured by: Number of audit entries, monthly financial statements completed timely and accurately. Feedback from CFO and Controller
Collect information and compile work papers to be used in submitting the annual Medicare and Medicaid cost reports
Collect information and compile data for the annual Medicaid DSH survey
Cash Clearing Accounts: Oversee that all cash clearing accounts reconcile monthly and that appropriate action is taken to clear those accounts occurred.
Sales and Use Tax: Calculate and pay each month, as well as occasionally review worksheet for accuracy.
As Measured by: Feedback from Directors, CFO, Controller, regulatory agencies, cost report preparers and auditors.
