SOUTH COAST ESD is Hiring a SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY ASSISTANT Near Coos Bay, OR

Job CharacteristicsCarry out specific therapy related tasks that are prescribed and directed by the supervising speech language pathologist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS;
  • Conduct speech and language screenings with interpretation of results provided by the Speech Language Pathologist [SLP].
  • Provide direct therapy to students [excluding dysphagia] following the treatment plan/goals and objectives developed by the SLP and outlined in the IFSP/IEP document.
  • Provide materials development and lesson planning following the IFSP/IEP or treatment plan developed by the supervising SLP.
  • Assist the SLP in reporting progress to and consulting with parents, teachers and other parties as designated in the IFSP.
  • Participate in IFSP/IEP meetings with the supervising SLP, upon request.
  • Maintain current therapy notes and progress data.
  • Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner [eg. Medicaid Logs].
  • Maintain regular attendance in order to preserve the continuity of service delivery for the program.
  • Perform all duties in a manner reasonably expected and generally recognized by the profession.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor, Director of Special Education and Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate fluently both orally and through written mediums.
  • Must be able to work harmoniously with a wide range of staff.
  • Must like to work with children of all ages.
  • Must hold an Oregon Driver's license, automobile insurance, provide own transportation and be willing to serve on an itinerant basis.
  • Demonstrates ability to deal with staff, students, and the public in an effective manner and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Respects confidential information.
  • Holds a current first aid card and CPR card.
Education/Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of community college training.
  • Hold current Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Certificate issued by the State of Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
Working ConditionsThe employee may work in regular or special education settings and/or in community settings with students in small or large groups or 1-to-1 and may be required to travel on the job.
The employee may , on occasion, work beyond an eight-hour day attending meetings, conferences, and school activities. the employee needs to be competent in conflict reso lution. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in confrontational and emotional situations involving staff, students, parents and patrons. Confidentiality is a top priority for the person(s) in this position.
The employee at times works under varied workloads and inflexible deadlines. Problems may arise which require immediate attention setting up conflicting priorities. Sound judgment is required to effectively prioritize these demands.
Supervision and instructional responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand up to 30 consecutive minutes and to move rapidly to intervene in situations where a student’s safety is being jeopardized. Outdoor supervision may be required during inclement weather.
The employee must be able to lift materials, boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
The employee may come into contact with biohazards such as human waste, saliva, or blood, and should take appropriate protective precautions.
Terms Of EmploymentTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary: $23.97 - $25.44
First consideration for this position will be given to members for the OSEA #119 bargaining association.
