This is a full-time position with the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. For more information on the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, please visit https://danr.sd.gov/.

This position assists the Director of Animal Health with coordination and monitoring of programs such as Animal Disease Traceability, National Poultry Improvement Plan, and cooperative animal health programs and disease eradication programs by maintaining work processes to deliver program services, collect and monitor statistics, evaluate effectiveness of program services and efficiency of processes, educate and inform program participants, and, where needed, recommend and support changes. With direction, analyzes and evaluates work processes, devises and implements changes to achieve program efficiency, deliver needed services effectively, and negotiate resolutions to issues when no formal guidelines exist.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Higher Education or work experience related to animal agriculture or animal health field is preferred.

Knowledge of:

  • excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely;
  • strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage deadlines effectively;
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint;
  • applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

Skill to:

  • human relations sufficient to tactfully and in a business-like manner interact with persons making inquiries about Animal Health programs to establish both effective communications and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to:

  • read and comprehend Animal Health program related bulletins, manuals, rules, etc., sufficient to respond to factual/procedural inquiries and to interpret and apply them to determine program eligibility and compliance;
  • write letters, memos, etc., sufficient to provide clear and thorough information at a level appropriate for the persons making the inquiries;
  • communicate orally sufficient to provide program information by telephone and in-person for data collection and reporting;
  • adapt to continuous organizational and program changes sufficient to work constructively under pressure and cope with ambiguity;
  • interpret objectives and develop practical applications.
