Location: Avon Park, FL Category: Support Staff Posted On: Thu May 16 2024 Job Description:

Full-time, year-round position responsible for advanced grounds and landscape maintenance. Typical work schedule: Monday - Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 pm.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine maintenance for College grounds, including, but not limited to:
    a. Pruning and restorative work on trees, shrubs, and plants.
    b. Cutting, edging, and trimming grass.
    c. Watering, fertilizing, and spraying using hand and power equipment as directed.
    d. Digging out areas where landscaping is needed and preparing grounds for planting of trees, shrubs, and plants.
    e. Operating grounds equipment.
  • Operates and maintains chain saws, power-lift equipment, and other advanced tools necessary for tree trimming to ensure the health of the college's trees as well as the safety of college students, employees, and visitors.
  • Maintains current knowledge of best practices and innovations related to the care of trees, shrubs, and plants.
  • Operates small powered ground equipment and performs minor repairs of such equipment.
  • Maintains knowledge and skill in the use of appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Assists in the installation and repair of sprinkler systems for campus.
  • Moves furniture, equipment, and materials as directed.
  • Assists with College special events (including load-in and load-out of shows, set-up, clean-up, traffic control in parking lots, etc.) as needed.
  • Records personal work time and quantities of materials used on specific jobs as directed.
  • Acts in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to unit planning, assessment, and college institutional effectiveness efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    This is a disaster essential position.

Job Requirements:


Educational:
High school diploma or equivalency is preferred. Formal training in the proper care of trees and shrubs preferred.

Experiential: At least five (5) years of full-time grounds maintenance experience required. (Experience working with plants, trees, turf grass and shrubs required.) Experience working as part of a grounds maintenance team preferred.

Other: Position involves moderately heavy manual work, including lifting and moving heavy equipment and supplies. Maintains appropriate certification for operation of machinery as required.
