South Glens falls Central School District is Hiring a District School Psychologist Near South Glens Falls, NY

There is an anticipated vacancy for a District School Psychologist beginning the 2023-2024 school year.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Improves the school educational experience of those students with emotional and learning disabilities through a program of psychological intervention.
  • Enhance the educational experience of students by facilitating their best possible adjustment to school through a program of psychological services.
  • Helps students resolve personal, emotional and social problems as they interfere with their adjustment to school through a program of psychological services.
  • Helps the district, on a continuing basis, evaluate and revise its methods and procedures so that a consistently high standard of teaching excellence and learning facility may be achieved and maintained.
  • Chair Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) as assigned.
  • Conducts extensive psycho-educational assessments of referred students for CSE, CPSE, and building level as assigned.
  • Interprets assessment results to school personnel, other concerned professionals, parents and the student; Makes educational and management recommendations for students based on assessments, interviews and observations.
  • Conducts individual, group or facilitative counseling for students with school adjustment difficulties.
  • Participates in case conferences when referred students are involved or as requested.
  • Serves as a resource person concerning learning disabilities for teachers and other school personnel.
  • Participates in in-service training programs; Attends scheduled staff meetings, committee meetings, and meets with Director of Special Education; Keeps current of new developments in the field.
  • Implements policy on all aspects of the district's psychological services and mental health programs.
  • Attends regular meetings with professional staff and other applicable parties.
  • Serves on the district's CSE Committee and other such committees involved in psycho-educational testing.
  • Participates in special consultations and case conferences with psychologists and other student services personnel.
  • Maintains liaison with community mental health clinics, special schools, and other resources offering therapeutic services.
  • Acts as liaison between schools and consulting psychiatrists/psychologists, and other mental health workers.
  • Develops a program of student assessment through research and evaluation.
  • Responsible for maintenance of psychological records on students and completion of all required reports.
  • Interprets the school psychological services.
  • Keeps current of developments in the field and acts as a resource for staff and administration.
  • Assists in the development of programs for teachers relating to child behavior, child development, and parent conferencing.
  • Assists in the development of special programs for students.
  • Provides psychological intervention for individual students to correct those personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
  • Consults with parents to increase their understanding of and constructive participation in resolving their child's problems and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
  • Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student's behavior.
  • Assists in the referral of students to, and serves as liaison with, such outside agencies as the Child Welfare Department, Child Placement Bureau and Juvenile Court as appropriate.
  • Makes home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on a child's background; Serves as liaison between home and school when follow-up is necessary.
  • Serves as a resource person in planning and conducting in-service educational activities for the improvement of teaching practices in the areas of test construction, test administration and test results evaluation.
  • Prepares various reports as designated by the Superintendent of Schools, Director of Special Education or designee.
  • Prepares reports and instructional materials for counselors, teachers and other professionals who use group test results in performing their duties and responsibilities.
  • Serves as a resource in the identification of community, fiscal, staff and other factors which may account for variations in quality within the school system and suggests ways these may be implemented to improve levels of student achievement.
  • Assists with implementing and documenting Response to Intervention strategies.
  • Such other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools, Director of Special Education, Principals or Assistant Principals
  • TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten Months - Salary and work year established by the Superintendent of Schools.
