Assists with transportation of children door-to-door from their homes to our Child Care / Head Start centers, public schools and / or Family Child Care Homes in our communities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Greet children and families with a smile and a hello- be respectful at all times
Follow all policies and procedures from EEC, Head Start, NAEYC and SMOC
Follow and understand our Transportation Oversight Plan
Maintain accurate attendance with times at all times children are on the bus
Monitor the behavior of all children on the bus and working with the bus driver and program staff to address any behavior concerns.
Conduct proper procedures and a second check at the end of each run to be sure all children are off the vehicle (including checking under seats and any hiding places)
Sign attendance at end of run verifying a second check has been done with date / time verifying there are not children on the bus.
Make sure you are aware of all medical conditions and have all emergency medications on the bus with you and are prepared to use them if necessary.
Check IDs against pick up list when you release a child to any person that you do not know for sure is on their list.
Be sure you know of any children that have custody agreements or restraining orders to be sure you never release a child to the wrong person.
You may only release a child to someone on their authorized list.
Maintain knowledge of First Aid / CPR and all transportation regulations.
Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
Keep bus interior clean at all times
Ensure all children are buckled safety in the proper car seats and / or seat belts and sitting properly.
Supervision and safety of the children is our number one priority.
All SMOC employees are Mandated Reporters
Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work.
Attend & participate in engagement team meetings as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas.
Ensure compliance with program / department, agency and / or funder requirements, as well as, SMOC policies & procedures.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Clear and accurate communication skills
Attention to detail and able to multi task
Must be comfortable working with diverse backgrounds and able to effectively communicate with children, families and co-workers.
Bi-lingual Spanish or Portuguese skills preferred.
Priority given to past or present Head Start parents.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
Directly reports to Center Director and Transportation Manager
Indirectly reports to assigned School bus Driver.
Direct reports of this position are N / A.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to handle the physical aspects of the position including the lifting of a child during bus evacuations and to assist children into car seats.
Recent physical exam determining good health.
WORKING CONDITIONS
As part of the responsibilities of this position, the Bus Monitor will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
A successful background check is required.
