South Piedmont Community College is Hiring a Campus Safety Dispatcher I (Part-Time) Near Polkton, NC

The Campus Safety Dispatcher is a part-time position (up to 25 hours per week) located on the Old Charlotte Highway Campus in Monroe NC. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Campus Safety, the Campus Safety Dispatcher performs a variety of safety communications and dispatching. The position also requires routine administrative duties, including receiving calls for police or security services and assessing and relaying emergency information to officers on campus. The dispatcher creates records of calls for service, monitors alarms and performs a variety of tasks related to campus safety.
Essential Duties Summary
  • Demonstrate ambassador-style courtesy and service to all in person or by phone extending sensitivity and confidentiality of information in compliance of HIPPA, FERPA or any other applicable laws or regulations
  • Monitor and dispatch all police and fire activations
  • Monitor surveillance cameras for unusual activity and threats
  • Recognize appropriate steps to recruit assistance of Director of Campus Safety when situations appear an alternative solution is unattainable
  • Possess a calmness in emergency situations for reporting emergencies to police, fire, EMS, and notifying appropriate college personnel
  • Answer incoming calls efficiently with a pleasant, friendly telephone voice and helpful attitude for determining the caller’s needs
  • Utilize all emergency systems for activating mass notifications to all employees and students
  • Comprehend our SPCC All Hazards Emergency Response Plan (AHERP) and be proficient and capable of utilizing emergency notification systems LYNX, INFORMACAST, and any additional technology or software
  • Submit and follow-up help-desk requests, maintenance work orders, and SharePoint requisitions as directed by the Director of Campus Safety
  • Complete Access Requests using our Genetec software
  • Coordinate communications, documentation, and tracking of training records, chemical inventory, incident reporting, and emergency planning or reviews using MS-Office products or proprietary software (Ex. MSDS)
  • Capable of adjusting to scheduling changes, needs, or flex-timing as warranted to fulfill the position
  • Accept that other duties and responsibilities may be assigned, added, or taken away to assist the Director of Campus Safety or the Vice-President of Finance and Administrative Service in completing their duties and responsibilities
Required Qualifications
  • Two years of experience involving substantial public contact
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse populations
  • Capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing applying problem-solving skills
  • Previous experience learning and utilizing new software technology
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge or experience in the protective services environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual
  • Associate’s Degree
  • Knowledge of academic practices and procedures in a higher education environment
  • Prior experience in dispatch
  • IT experience
  • Retired law enforcement
