South Texas College of Law Houston is Hiring a Media Technology Technician- Evening Shift Near Houston, TX

SUMMARY Supports instructional technology systems in classrooms, auditoriums, and other venues as required. Provides direct support to ITS customers with installed ITS equipment, presentation software, learning management system, and video communications platform.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Remotely operate MS Windows-based instructional systems throughout the law school. Maintains and upgrades these systems remotely and in-person. Troubleshoots instructional systems to determine cause of the problem and then resolve issues with hardware/software.

Train the law school community in the use of equipment and instructional software installed on ITS systems. Demonstrate how to use basic functions in the Brightspace LMS, Zoom meeting platform, and IClicker to assist users.

Perform administrative support functions such as answer phones, schedule equipment, and service reservations in office calendar. Provide information concerning ITS procedure and policy for faculty, staff, and students.

Perform periodic maintenance and repair on instructional equipment, to include component replacement in teaching stations.

Use software such as VNC, MS Office, Zoom, RingCentral Office, and more.

Provide audio-visual support for events, seminars and other programs in campus auditoriums directly or remotely. Set up microphones, monitor sound, operate mounted cameras, self-direct and record video.

Complete audiovisual setups in unimproved spaces with portable equipment. Sets up lecterns, microphones, AV carts, video projectors, etc.

Comply with all aspects of the law school’s Customer Service Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to work the evening shift, occasional weekends, and flex schedule as needed. Ability to organize and keep accurate records. Ability to operate video equipment. Must be detail-oriented with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. Must be professional and confidential with all department data and correspondence.Must have a thorough Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Windows OS, and Zoom video conferencing required. Mac OS and LMS (d2L) experience preferred. Able to make sound decisions and work independently with minimal supervision. Able to interact, assist, and communicate with diverse groups with varying levels of technical knowledge.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred. IT related Experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must possess outstanding customer service attitude and have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic math essentials

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve routine problems and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations, especially when the department head may be out of the office or unavailable. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision in order to accurately input data and proofread; distance vision in order to recognize and assist visitors to the department.

Fast-paced, multi-tasking, non-smoking work environment. Must be able to work the Evening business schedule of the law school (1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 11:00am to 7:30 p.m. Friday) as well as occasional alternate hours, and weekend shifts. The schedule can change due to fluctuations in staffing needs and law school needs.
