Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center is Hiring a Clerical specialist Near Cambridge, OH

Under the direct leadership of the Nurse Director or Registered Nurse assist the nursing staff by performing receptionist and secretarial duties on the nursing care unit;

performs or offers to perform assignments outside scope of classification in the best interest of patients, physicians, visitors, and Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center associates.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • High school graduate or equivalent including ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology.
  • Able to satisfactorily complete orientation inservice program.
  • Able to perform detailed assignments, work under pressure, and relate to patients, hospital staff, and visitors cordially.
  • Displays dependability and initiative in performing simultaneous tasks.
  • Possess good physical and mental health, visual and aural acuity and the ability to speak distinctly.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions; exhibit initiative and good judgement; possess memory for details; have patience, understanding and tact are required to meet the changing demands of this position.
  • Possess abilities to perform basic computer skills.

Principle Responsibilities :

  • Positive, timely reception greeting and assistance to patients, visitors and medical center personnel arriving on the nursing unit.
  • Politely receives phone calls identifying unit, name, and position with an offer of assistance. Relays appropriate messages except for receiving telephone or verbal physician's orders.
  • Pleasantly receives requests from patients and families and refers requests to appropriate nursing personnel as necessary.
  • Functions as communication focus during emergency situations, STAT requests, and orders.
  • Correctly utilize the computerized nurse patient call system
  • Records and delivers messages for patients and staff.
  • Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials, supplies and equipment inventory on assigned unit.
  • Maintains assignment boards, bulletin boards and other communication sources.
  • Obtains Charts from Medical Records.
  • Assists Registered Nurse in the preparation of work assignments.
  • Maintains a clean, safe and functional working environment on the nursing unit.
  • Registers patients for surgical and ambulatory services. Gathers necessary demographic and insurance information.
  • Refers patients to financial counseling if necessary.
  • Admits patients who become full admissions or observation patients. Obtains room assignments from Bed Manager or Clinical Nurse Coordinator.
  • Transfers pre-admitted patients to active registration.
  • Assists in cleaning cubicles, equipment, instruments, and general order of the department.

Documentation :

  • Initiates and maintains charts for all patients on assigned unit.
  • Enters basic facts (patient name, doctor, age, diagnosis, social information, etc.) in computer.
  • Transcribes physician orders and submit to patient care coordinator for verification and signature. Telephones and sends new or changed order requests to appropriate departments.
  • Records clinical data such as temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and similar patient information received from nursing and medical staff when necessary
  • Files diagnostic and Laboratory reports in appropriate patient chart, keeping pages of the chart in proper sequence.
  • Adds additional blank forms to patient chart as appropriate.
  • Prepares charts for admission, dismissal or transfer, checking to be sure the record is complete
  • Able to send and receive computerized information eg- clinical circumstances, faxes, etc.

Communication :

  • Demonstrates effective and positive communication.
  • Communicates completion of tasks and duties to the Registered Nurse to successfully accomplish the team approach of providing patient care and implementing unit activities.
  • Supports and uses effective and positive working relationships with all health care team members, patient and patient's significant other, while cherishing the individuality of each person.

Unit Related Activities :

  • Orders patient's diet after lab, x-ray, surgery, etc.
  • Obtains supplies from Materials Management or Sterile Processing.
  • Attends educational activities as assigned to learn new forms, procedures and developmental skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with orientation and competency skills. Be willing to work where assigned to provide the best possible patient care.
  • Attends unit meetings; may participate in continuous quality improvement activities.

Monitor Watcher Duties :

  • Observes monitor patterns and reports suspected arrhythmias.
  • Informs staff to checks, change or replace monitor patches, batteries, etc., as necessary.
  • Cleans monitors and keeps them properly labeled with patient's name, room number and physician.
  • Pages "DR. STAT" when instructed by RN utilizing "77".
  • Runs rhythm strips and labels them with patient's name, room number, date and time.

Job Related Activities :

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information, including that of family, friends, and staff who may be patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills required to care for designated patients under the guidance of the Registered Nurse.
  • Participates actively in staff activities, including unit meetings / conferences.
  • Participates in attainment of unit, departmental, and organizational goals.
  • Seeks validation of required knowledge base and skill level as necessary; assertively seeks guidance in areas of question.
  • Demonstrates self-directed learning and attends educational activities, as assigned, to learn new treatments, procedures, etc.
  • Participates in CQI committees and task forces as opportunity arises.
  • Is tolerant of staff who are learning and facilitates growth and development of peers.
  • Participates in the orientation of new staff and / or students.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations, following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate person.
  • Ability to properly use time, equipment and supplies with minimal supervision.

Risk Management :

  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient rights as identified within the institution.
  • Practices effective problem identification and reporting.
