JOB DESCRIPTION: AIRCRAFT APPRENTICE MECHANICFLSA STAUS: NON-EXEMPTREPORT TO: DIRECTOR OF MAINTENANCESouthern Airways is expanding and seeking aircraft apprentice mechanics interested in preparing for the FAA A&P Certificate for a long-term career in aviation maintenance. Apprentices will receive company initial training and then be assigned to a shift working in a hangar on aircraft under the supervision of a lead mechanic. Team players are encouraged to apply and join us in providing our customers with an enjoyable flying experience.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has taken an aircraft maintenance course at a college, technical school, or military school and has some practical experience.
- Should obtain an A&P certificate after 30 months of practical experience (OJT) concurrently performing the duties appropriate to both the airframe and powerplant ratings.
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Can read, write, and speak English effectively.
- Is professional in appearance and manner.
- Is courteous in all interactions.
- Is a team player.
- Is detail oriented.
- Ability to maintain SIDA access.
- Ability to work within a 24/7 operation including holidays.
- Ability to pass a 10-year background check and pre-employment drug screen.
- Able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the business.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow maintenance manuals, drawings, and wiring prints.
- Able to document on-the-job training and successfully complete training as required by the company.
- Basic computer skills.
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. per the Immigration Act of 1986.
- Ownership/possession of basic tools to complete the job tasks.
- Able to bend, squat, kneel and stand for extended periods of time.
- Able to lift 40 pounds.
- Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
