Epidemiologist I

Job Duties: Under the general direction of the Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources (OSCTR) Program Manager will develop, implement, participate in and monitor grant trainings, programs, and activities within the Southern Plains Tribal Health Board’s Tribal Epidemiology Center (TEC) and Tribal communities it serves. Our multidisciplinary team conducts innovative research to address pressing health challenges and inform evidence-based interventions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in epidemiological research methodologies, data analysis, and interpretation. They will play a key role in designing and implementing epidemiological studies, analyzing data, and disseminating findings through publications, presentations, and disseminate results to tribes; including internal and external specific public health data sharing and performs other related duties as required. Will also work in collaboration with tribes, tribal programs, Indian Health Service (IHS), state and local programs to develop, maintain and improve public health related data collection, analysis, and interpretation to ensure comprehensive, improved quality health data are available and accessible to the Native American population in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Additional duties may also be to develop workplans, write reports, and coordinate with internal and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Study Design: Design epidemiological studies to investigate the distribution and determinants of health-related outcomes, including disease incidence, prevalence, and risk factors.

Data Collection and Management: Develop institutional review board (IRB) and internal research protocols for data collection, including the selection of study populations, sampling methods, and data collection tools. Implement strategies for data collection, data management and quality assurance.

Data Analysis: Conduct statistical analyses of epidemiological data using appropriate methods, such as regression analysis, survival analysis, and spatial analysis. Interpret findings and draw conclusions based on statistical evidence.

Publication and Presentation: Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences and scientific meetings. Collaborate with team members to ensure the timely dissemination of research findings.

Collaboration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including biostatisticians, clinicians, and public health professionals, to address research questions and develop comprehensive research strategies.

Grant Writing: Assist in the development of grant proposals to secure funding for epidemiological research projects. Contribute to the writing of grant applications and research reports.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, or related field.
  • Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in statistical software packages such as R, SAS, or Stata.
  • Experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies, including knowledge of study design principles and methodologies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting research findings.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Prior experience in grant writing is desirable.
  • Experience with tribal organizations and/or not-for-profit agency is desired.
  • Grant writing and management experience is desired.

Travel: In and out of state travel may be required in the fulfillment of job requirements and training.
