Fleet FAC Engineer (Corporate)Job SummarySouthern Nuclear Operating Company’s corporate Fleet Plant Support Department provides support for the Southern Nuclear Fleet. We are seeking engineers with experience in managing and executing the Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) Program. The Fleet FAC Program Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and governance, oversight and implementation of the FAC Program for the entire SNC fleet. The successful candidate should have understanding of applicable regulations, codes, and industry standards and experience with program implementation in nuclear power plants. Activities involve ensuring code/regulatory compliance, identifying industry best practices, developing/maintaining fleet procedures, participation in industry working groups, developing the FAC outage inspection, repair, and replacement scopes, evaluating FAC inspection results, reviewing model data and updating the CHEKWORKs FAC models.
The job can be located at any of our SNC Plant site, Plant Farley, Plant Hatch, or Plant Vogtle or at the Corporate HQ location in Birmingham. The candidate must live within 1 hour of one of these locations to support ERO duties.
Educational/ExperienceJOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university, or Professional Engineer license, is required. (Engineering Technology will not be accepted).
  • Mechanical or Civil Engineering discipline is preferred. Nuclear, Civil, Chemical, and Electrical Engineering degrees will be considered based upon the candidate’s experience.
Experience PreferencesThe position will be filled as either a level 6 or 7 depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications, expertise, and current paygrade level.
  • A strong technical background in engineering and working knowledge of applicable codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements related to the applicable programs.
  • Three (3) years or more of application and experience with programs such as License Renewal//Aging Management, Welding & Code Repair/Replacement, Flow Accelerated Corrosion, Fatigue Monitoring, FLEX, Buried Pipe, ISI, IST, Appendix J, and/or Buried Cables is desired. Five (5) years or more of application and experience with the FAC Program is preferred.
  • Proficiency in interpretation of system/component/isometric drawings is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using the EPRI CHEKWORKs software is preferred.
  • Nuclear power site station experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in systems engineering, programs engineering, or component engineering is preferred.

  • Ability to communicate technical issues and drive problem resolution through various levels of management at the plant sites and corporate office.
  • Ability to work effectively across diverse groups at the plant sites and corporate office to drive standard technical solutions to system/component issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to initiate, coordinate and oversee multiple complex projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands and priorities.
  • Ability to use good judgment and make sound engineering and business decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with counterparts at each nuclear plant site.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to be a team player with emphasis on team contribution.
  • Self-starter who performs tasks with little supervision or oversight.
  • Maintain unescorted access to all SNC facilities.
