1 Scheduling Analyst – Gas Optimization Job in Birmingham, AL
Southern is Hiring a Scheduling Analyst – Gas Optimization Near Birmingham, AL
- This position will be based out of Birmingham, AL however candidates living outside of the area may be considered with the expectation that they could successfully telework and be physically present in-office and/or field location on a routine (see below) and as-needed basis.
- Hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently three (3) days in-office and two (2) days telecommute (subject to adjustment).
- Relocation assistance may be provided if the successful candidate does not currently live within a reasonable commute distance.
- This position will require some travel (day and overnight, up to 25%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service.
Primary Responsibilities
- Nominate, confirm, and monitor natural gas flow on interstate pipelines.
- Monitor assigned pipes comparing scheduled volume to actual flow.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems that restrict gas flows.
- Maintain and verify the accuracy of scheduling data in Southern’s gas management system for tracking and accounting purposes.
- Develop trading expertise, purchasing and selling gas while identifying the optimal approach for reliability and cost.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the operational aspects of pipelines and their tariffs.
- Provide analytical support for trading and scheduling activities; develop tools to optimize supply and transportation assets.
- Participate in weekend back-up rotation, and back-up other team members as needed.
- Occasional after-hours work may be required.
- BS/BA degree in a course of study that demonstrates strong analytical and technical skills such as Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Applied Sciences, etc.
- Comfort with detailed work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to think critically, strategically, and analytically.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships.
- Must be a team player capable of multi-tasking.
- Proficiency with standard analytical and business software such as Microsoft Office is required.
- Experience with VBA, SQL, or other programming languages is a plus.
