This is a part-time position with the potential to become full time. The Assistant Groundskeeper-General Maintenance Tech Trainee performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance, care, and modification of SBH grounds and landscapes which includes the operation of electrically-powered and gasoline-powered grounds keeping equipment and machines, and the use of small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and landscaping. The Assistant Groundskeeper also performs maintenance on grounds keeping equipment and tools, and makes minor repairs (within demonstrated capability) as directed. The Assistant Groundskeeper/General Maintenance Tech Trainee changes light bulbs; paints walls and woodwork; makes minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs, delivers supplies, materials, and equipment as needed, retrieves and transfers agency assets, provides custodial services as necessary, etc.

Responsibilities

• Performs tasks common to the care of grounds and landscapes by seeding, watering, mulching, fertilizing and applying chemicals to outside plantings, lawns and turf as well as inside flowers.
• Performs regular and directed grounds and landscape maintenance by mowing lawns with riding and push mowers.
• Removes unsightly trash and debris from public areas, raking, sweeping and bagging leaves, snow removal.
• Safely operates assigned maintenance vehicles/trailers. Including rented tractors and excavators, riding lawn mowers as well as power tools and equipment.
• Performs painting work, replace and dispose light bulbs, general custodial services.

Qualifications

• A High school diploma or equivalent required,
• Previous grounds keeping and/or handyman experience desired, but not required.
• Must have the ability to lift and carry grounds keeping supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis.
• Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record, required.
