Southside Elementary is Hiring an ESL Teacher - Grades 3 and 4 Near Siloam Springs, AR

POSITION TITLE: ESL Teacher, Southside Elementary - Grades 3 and 4

QUALIFICATIONS: Arkansas teaching license and endorsement or training in English as a

Second Language

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator(s) and District Supervisor(s)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Collaborate with other teachers in Professional Learning Communities
  2. Serve as a resource for classroom teachers
  3. Administer ESL placement screener (ELPA 21) and reevaluation assessments
  4. Be familiar with and administer ELPA21 Summative Assessment
  5. Implement a variety of effective, research based instructional strategies consistently to engage learners with the essential learning standards
  6. Monitor and assess student progress frequently, using both formative and summative assessments, and provide progress reports as requested
  7. Be organized and able to effectively complete paperwork and adhere to workflow expectations
  8. Coordinate with General Education teacher to create appropriate Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction and interventions
  9. Implement English Language Development (ELD) curriculum.
  10. Create a classroom environment that reflects respectful interactions between students and teachers, as well as student to student
  11. Communicate with Special Education, Gifted and Talented, counseling, health services, etc to provide appropriate services for English learners
  12. Lead building Language Placement and Assessment Committee meetings (LPAC)
  13. Communicate identified accommodations for students to regular classroom teachers and administration
  14. Meet with other schools to assist with smooth student transitions between buildings
  15. Maintain effective classroom behavior expectations and procedures
  16. Provide direction and support to ESL paraprofessional(s), when applicable
  17. Effectively implement district initiatives
  18. Attend student conferences 2x/year and provide frequent communication between parents
  19. Work collaboratively with parent involvement coordinator to promote community relations

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations
  2. Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  4. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  5. Serve on committees as assigned
  6. Remain current on instructional practices in education to meet or exceed local and state expectations
  7. All other duties as assigned
