Job Title Principal – Southside Elementary (Grades 3-4)

Qualifications

Applicants must have a current Arkansas Building-Level Administrator License appropriate for 5th and 6th grades. Applicants must have effective leadership skills and experiences, along with a proven background in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development. Previous administrative experience is preferred.

Evaluator Superintendent

Job Goal

The Intermediate School Principal is the instructional leader of the school building. He/she is accountable for all aspects of the building’s operation. Major responsibilities include prioritizing teaching and learning to ensure success for all students; monitoring the implementation of academic and social-emotional programs; supervising certified and non-certified staff; providing high-quality staff development; managing human, fiscal and physical resources effectively; and developing productive community partnerships. 

Specific Job Duties/Requirements:

Instructional Leadership

  • Oversee curriculum development and improvement of instruction in cooperation with district administration
  • Utilize data to guide decisions related to increasing student success and improving professional practice.
  • Analyze various data to improve the school’s letter grade based on a deep understanding of ESSA components
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of a school-level improvement plan 
  • Facilitate and monitor the use of evidence-based instructional practices
  • Conduct classroom observations and teacher evaluations using TESS while providing regular high quality feedback to educators
  • Ensure implementation of the Science of Reading practices, collect evidence of effectiveness and determine proficiency levels for each teacher
  • Monitor and guide teacher planning for instruction that meets the individual needs of every student
  • Work collaboratively with district leadership to plan, provide and implement appropriate professional development
  • Interview and recommend candidates for certified and classified positions
  • Supervise interns and guest teachers
  • Prepare a master schedule to maximize teaching and learning time 
  • Communicate instructional goals to parents and community

Managing and Leading Staff

  • Supervise and evaluate all certified and non-certified staff
  • Collaborate with district administration on new teacher induction and mentor assignments
  • Develop, review and revise the faculty handbook setting clear expectations for staff 
  • Improve instructional practice through feedback and coaching
  • Ensure compliance with district policy; take appropriate action with non-compliance
  • Promote and grow leadership among staff
  • Set high expectations for staff and model these expectations through leadership style

Managing and Maintaining Facilities 

  • Maintain the grounds and building by supervising custodial staff and submitting work orders for maintenance needs
  • Maintain a safe and secure learning environment

Budget

  • Develop and manage building budgets in collaboration with district business office
  • Monitor staff attendance through Frontline software and approve leave based on district policy
  • Collaborate with district administration to ascertain staffing needs

School Culture

  • Establish a culture that meets the needs of the whole child
  • Establish and maintain acceptable standards of behavior for students and staff
  • Administer discipline to students in a firm and fair manner
  • Develop and maintain a school mission and vision that supports and complements the district mission, vision, and values
  • Collaborate with other buildings to ensure smooth transitions and vertical alignment
  • Review and revise Student Reference Guide

Parent/Community Involvement

  • Seek ways to involve parents and families in their student’s education
  • Lead and facilitate parent meetings and Adopter’s meetings
  • Promote school activities in the community and seek to establish partnerships and positive working relationships with community organizations 
  • Secure resources for parent center

Supervision

  • Ensure adequate supervision of lunch, recess, drop off and pickup
  • Coordinate and supervise before-school, after-school, summer-school, and night-time activities 

Communication

  • Maintain open channels of communication within the building, among buildings, and with district administration
  • Understand and promote district policies to employees, parents, and community
  • Inform the district superintendent about matters which are pertinent to the administration of the district
  • Oversee preparation and timely submission of all necessary DESE reports
  • Operate as part of the district administration team by supporting district initiatives
