This is a 9 month position for 7 hours/day (plus 1/2 hour unpaid lunch). This position is eligible for medical coverage only.
Purpose
Assist the Special Education Program in helping and understanding students' skills and areas of need for a particular job, both in the classroom and in the community. Work with the employer to fully understand the technical skills, sequence of tasks and social skills required of a particular job or task. Assist students by teaching the necessary skills to successfully perform the job(s). Be available to employers and students in order to facilitate strong, effective communication. Transport students to and from various job sites. Observe, document and report progress, concerns, etc. Other responsibilities as needed and determined by the Special Education Director, Teachers and Principals.
Qualifications
Completion of two years of study (60 hours) at an institution of higher education or possession of an associate’s (or higher) degree is preferred. Previous experience as a classroom assistant desirable. Candidates must have a sincere interest in working with students in the learning process. Effective communication skills. Ability to take direction. Initiative and dependability in carrying out assignments. Patience and genuine interest in education of students. Awareness and respect for student diversity. Clerical skills, flexibility, and confidentiality required. Training for this position will be implemented upon hiring.
