Chair - Kosair for Kids School of Physical Therapy
POSITION
Spalding University is seeking a Chair of the Kosair for Kids School of Physical Therapy
JOB SUMMARY
The Chair of the Kosair for Kids School of Physical Therapy is responsible for the ongoing growth and development of the entry-level physical therapy doctoral program (and other academic initiatives.) The successful candidate will hire and mentor faculty and recruit graduate students. The program started educating DPT students August 2023 after successfully obtaining Candidacy for Accreditation status through CAPTE in summer 2023. The program is a unique blended program where students spend one week per month during the academic year in laboratory work and the other three weeks completing online content.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Active, unrestricted license as physical therapist in any jurisdiction of the United States and eligible for licensure in Kentucky
  • Academic doctoral degree
  • Minimum of six years of full-time teaching experience in higher education with at least three years of full-time teaching experience as a core faculty member at a CAPTE accredited Doctor of Physical Therapist education program
  • Record of scholarship with dissemination of peer-reviewed products per CAPTE standards
  • Experience in graduate physical therapy program leadership, development, and management
  • Experience and expertise in CAPTE accreditation procedures is required
  • Experience as a faculty member or program administrator is required
Qualifications
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the post-professional DPT offerings
  • Communicate and collaborate with the DPT faculty, program director, Dean, Provost, and University administration
  • Achieve and maintain CAPTE accreditation with assistance from the faculty, program director, and University administration
  • Oversee the development of policies and procedures consistent with those of the University in collaboration with the DPT program director and faculty
  • Monitor progress of students
  • Preparation and administration of the annual budget for the post-professional DPT programs and supervise the program director's fiscal management of the entry-level DPT program
  • Direct faculty recruitment efforts in consultation with the program director and Dean, assign search committees, make recommendations for appointments to the Dean and Provost
  • Assign teaching loads consistent with faculty governance documents that meet the needs of the University, curriculum, faculty, and the students
  • Ability to mentor and collaborate with faculty and staff colleagues in the School and provide guidance and open channels of communication in the areas of teaching, scholarship, service, and administrative work
  • Conduct annual faculty, program director, and staff performance appraisals and review including reappointments, annual salaries, promotions and tenure as per University guidelines
  • Collaborate in acquisition of external funding and community partnerships for the Kosair for Kids School of Physical Therapy
  • Foster interdisciplinary education and collaboration across the campus.
  • Participate in DPT student and faculty grievance procedures as outlined in the respective handbooks and Spalding University Policy Guide
  • Participate in and assign program faculty to University and Faculty Senate committees.
  • Develop programs to foster active alumni participation in and contributions to Spalding University and the Kosair for Kids School of Physical Therapy
  • Facilitate innovation and change to achieve the Kosair for Kids School of Physical Therapy's mission, vision, and goals.
  • Foster professional development of the program director and faculty individually and collectively based on the needs of entry-level and post-professional DPT programs.
  • Collaborate with program director and faculty in ongoing curriculum assessment, management, and revisions
  • Collaborate with program director to gather and analyze data from program assessments including graduate and employee surveys in consideration for curricular changes.
  • Carry a teaching load commensurate with the University faculty workload policy for a Chair
  • Present and publish scholarly works through peer-reviewed professional journals or professional conferences
  • Participate in University governance, and public and professional service at a local, regional, state, or national levels.
  • Continue active membership in professional associations or organizations at the local, state, and national levels
  • Recruit talented and passionate graduate students
  • Guide the DPT Director and work with Admissions; work with the Dean of Enrollment Management and the Dean of Graduate Education in creating a strategy for digital funnel management, quick and persistent responses, and a system of admissions of prospective students that attempts to fill the class in a timely manner each year
  • Maintain CAPTE Candidacy for Accreditation status in pursuit of obtaining full Accreditation status through CAPTE and ensure compliance with the University's regional accrediting body for new programs (SACSCOC)
  • Establish training partnerships in Louisville by working with the Director of Clinical Education and assist in meeting with leaders at clinical sites
  • Foster diversity of graduate students at an urban university
SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Technology skills in a learning management system, budgeting, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
  • Leadership in regional, state, national, or international professional associations related to physical therapy
  • Commitment to inclusiveness and collegiality in personal and professional work and mentoring students and faculty on the importance of multicultural and multidisciplinary applications
  • Commitment and alignment with Spalding University's Mission
  • Teaching expertise in physical therapy and extensive (2-5 years) experience in the classroom is required; providing teaching evaluations of past courses is a plus; ability to teach an online or hybrid course is expected
  • Understanding of the tenure process; candidates that have gone through a tenure-track process is preferred but not mandatory
INTERRELATIONS
  • Regular or daily contact with administration, faculty, staff, and students
  • Regular contact with the general public
  • Must be able to work with, listen to, appreciate, and collaborate and lead with diverse populations
  • Ability to work periodically evenings and weekends to promote the DPT program and the university is required
  • The program is hybrid but the Kosair for Kids School of Physical Therapy Chair must live in the greater Louisville area in order to arrange (with the faculty and staff) the physical office, building, labs, other spaces, etc.
