GENERAL PURPOSE :

Working under the supervision of the Spanish Fork City Cemetery Sexton the Cemetery Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties in a park setting or similar facilities;

and performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Daily maintenance of city parks and grounds including turf grass care, flower and shrub planter care, tree care, grounds maintenance and cleaning / trash pick up, facilities and restroom cleaning.

• Makes minor alterations to irrigation systems; installs and / or repairs broken irrigation lines; repairs sprinkler heads;
• assists in installation of sprinkler systems. Operates hand and power equipment including shovel, rake, mower, tractor, golf cart, rototiller, athletic soil grooming equipment;

maintains tools and equipment used in park maintenance. Performs simple and minor repairs to equipment and structures. Responds to assignments from the lead worker and supervisor.

Often perform essential functions on holidays and weekends as assigned. Often transports city parade float to Utah county destinations.

Must have professional positive attitude with good communication skills. Be productive while working alone and with others.

Employee is expected to deal effectively and courteously with the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Prior experience in the maintenance of parks or similar experience including some exposure to horticulture, landscape maintenance or a related field;

or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities and skills listed below :

• Knowledge of plants, trees, shrubs, insects, and diseases.
• Knowledge of the use of chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, etc. for maintenance for parks and other areas.
• Knowledge of the maintenance and repair procedures and techniques used in park or grounds maintenance.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and general public.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to safely operate various landscape maintenance and repair equipment and tools.

• Must have transportation to and from work and speak English.
• Must have excellent design, organizational and planning skills, and strong people skills.
• Must be a self-motivated, open minded problem solver that adapts readily to change. This is a hands-on position.
• Must have valid drivers license.

• Surroundings involve contact with outdoors, dust, dirt, heat, cold, arid / dry, humidity, wetness noise, fumes and vibrations.
