Special Student Services is Hiring a Diagnostician Near Portales, NM

Open for the 2024-2025 School Year

Summary:

The educational diagnostician evaluates students for eligibility for Special Education services and identifies appropriate educational services and assists in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to meet the students’ needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university

2. Current New Mexico Department of Education license appropriate to Educational

Diagnostician or the ability to obtain one

3. Will consider individuals with a School Psychologist License

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Attend workshops and in-services to stay abreast of changes in standards, assessments strategies, and research findings.
  2. Complete other tasks deemed appropriate and necessary by the immediate supervisor and/or the superintendent.
  3. Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
  4. Demonstrate ethical behavior.
  5. Engage in self-development.
  6. Adhere to confidentiality laws and regulations.
  7. Support the value of an education.
  8. Support the philosophy and mission of the Portales Municipal Schools.
  9. Respond to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Promote an environment/climate conducive to productive performance.
  2. Plan and manage the resources for which he/she is responsible, including finances, facilities, program, and time.
  3. Communicate accurately and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  4. Use supervision, staff development, and performance evaluation to improve the services of the district.
  5. Demonstrate leadership.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of political theory.
  7. Comply with all Board policies and administrative regulations.
  8. Complete all necessary paperwork.
  9. Acquire permission to test, administer appropriate tests, and interpret the results of each instrument administered in terms that can be understood.
  10. Explain rights to parents before testing and placements.
  11. Be knowledgeable about criteria requirements for each disability.
  12. Be knowledgeable about New Mexico State standards for special education.
  13. Explain service levels available for the student and makes recommendations that will help the student reach his learning potential.
  14. Be available to meet with parents, staff, and/or administration.
  15. Drive from school to school.
