Spectra Health is Hiring a Behavioral Health Consultant Near Grand Forks, ND

JOB SUMMARY: The Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) provides assessment, consultation, and brief interventions to clients and families of Spectra Health. The BHC works with an integrated health care team to ensure that psychological or behavioral concerns are addressed. The BHC is comfortable working on a multi-disciplinary team and advocating for patients when appropriate. This role is key to creating a patient centered environment.
ORGANIZATIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the mission, vision and philosophy of Spectra Health as evidenced by compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Support all functions that attain and maintain compliance with regulatory or funding agencies.
  • Support and facilitate positive interaction with others as evidenced by professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information and an appreciation of a variety of viewpoints and diversity in the workplace.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills, including proper use of agency communication systems.
  • Support the strategic plan of Spectra Health as evidenced by a working knowledge of the plan and participation in completing elements of the plan
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide brief consultation-based services to patients and providers using an integrated care model.
  • Ability to identify and assess patient concerns in a brief period and create meaningful behavioral-based interventions.
  • Assist clients in successfully identifying and achieving goals related to their mental health and lifestyle factors that affect health, such as tobacco use, substance use, nutrition, and physical activity.
  • Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions.
  • Assist the primary care team in developing processes, behavioral interventions, and patient education to improve self-management of chronic disease.
  • Assist in the detection of "at risk" patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration for patients of all ages in all clinic settings.
  • Work with nursing care coordinators to track and support patients when they obtain behavioral health services outside the practice, i.e. Emergency Departments, Hospitals, and other facilities.
  • Work with clinic staff to implement procedures related to crisis management and referral to BHC.
  • Provide information and feedback to clinic staff related to communication strategies and conflict management used with patients and other staff
  • Partner with PSR Coordinator to provide communication skills training to PSR staff.
  • Work with MAT team to engage clients in recovery and provide support
  • Work with integrated care director to ensure appropriate orientation and monitoring of student interns
  • Facilitate group meetings as needed.
  • Facilitate referrals to specialty mental health or addiction counseling providers as needed.
  • Exhibit an understanding of cultural humility during interactions with staff and clients by providing an inclusive and safe environment.
  • Actively participate in meetings that support the center's integrated health care model.
  • Assist with and utilize population screening tools (i.e. PRAPARE, GAD, etc.)
  • Assist with tracking behavioral health patient registries and participating in case review with consulting psychiatrist.
  • Prepare and maintain all required documentation through a shared electronic health record.
  • Ability to work in both the Larimore and Grand Forks locations.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or related behavioral health sciences
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) licensure.
  • Qualified candidates will have a working knowledge of SBIRT, motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based interventions. Comfort working within the pace of a primary care setting and within an interdisciplinary team.
  • A belief in the principles of trauma informed care and harm reduction
  • Ability to design workflow and processes for selected conditions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
  • Experience in a Primary Care Behavioral Health Model
  • Prior experience working with diverse population groups
  • Knowledge of local resources and supports
  • Experience and/or knowledge of evidence-based treatment and intervention for people experiencing substance use disorders
  • Shows understanding of the relationship of medical and psychological systems
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a clinical setting and requires some hands-on patient care.
OSHA category: High risk. Job requires performance of tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Behavioral Health Consultant is primarily a desk job that requires the ability to sit for long periods of time (up to 8 hours) at a desk or workstation. Periodically, the position requires lifting or carrying items that would be appropriate in an office environment, not more than 20lbs.
