Job Title:Corporate Sustainability Senior ManagerLocation: Deerfield, IL- 60015Duration: 5 months (Potential Extension) Remote okay, but hybrid would be ideal in Deerfield once a weekKey Focus
  • Support/coordination of our CDP response
  • Support double materiality assessment (DMA) execution
  • Function as a liaison with the MPT business segment on sustainability projects, customer inquiries, and tenders
  • Support recasting of our 2030 corporate responsibility goals
  • Supporting development of SBTi (Science Based Target Initiative) strategy
Purpose of the position
The Role is focused on providing sustainability support globally for a designated business segment, and managing new and emerging Corporate Responsibility/Sustainability external stakeholder needs for that segment. They will also focus on internal needs including the deployment of client's Global Corporate Responsibility (CR) Goals in their designated business segment, and support the business segments with sustainability information about operational improvements, products and services. The information will help to fully leverage the sustainability value that client's strong performance in this important area can provide across our internal networks, and with our external stakeholders.
Internally they will also plan for and execute on the corporate sustainability strategy to ensure resources are deployed to meet the changing needs of client's stakeholders. Essential to this role is to work well in a collaborative environment which is nimble with a bias for action.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and quantify benefits of sustainability projects, in order to help client's meet its corporate responsibility goals.
  • Work in partnership with the segment in identifying projects to promote the environmental attributes of Client's operations, products and services, and seek to provide a competitive advantage.
  • Leveraging good and best practices in sustainability across sites or products to be implemented effectively throughout the segment. Partner with other segment sustainability leads to identify opportunities that can be implemented company-wide.
  • Develop materials to communicate progress on sustainability in conjunction with relevant business, communications and legal partners.
  • Provide segment representation on a matrixed program of activity to deliver information on all relevant governance, customer and legislative requirements in order to generate business value (i.e. respond to RFPs/tenders), and maintain compliance with relevant sustainability requirements
  • Work with segment R&D to influence design of more sustainable products and packaging, and the sustainability needs of global markets.
  • Educate and raise awareness internally (all employees) & externally (customers, suppliers & other stakeholders) about Cleint's Corporate Responsibility Goals and performance, and environmental attributes of operations, products and packaging
  • Promote understanding of sustainability initiatives and encourage integration and ownership across all areas and functions of the businesses.
  • Work to pull sustainability issues into EHS&S and other functions into management system approaches as needed, and support existing certification efforts (e.g., ISO14001, SGE21)
  • Work with other Corporate EHS&S team members to develop material for internal and external stakeholders on CR/sustainability issues, including but not limited to
  • Material or examples for annual CR report
  • preparation of email/ intranet/ internet communications
  • developing legally or customer required statements of performance
  • supporting award or external recognition applications
  • Support, participate in and lead as appropriate CR/ sustainability or business initiatives that align with the company strategy as defined by the Corporate Responsibility Council.
  • Maintain knowledge and network to ensure the sites and segments receive up to date advice and awareness of competitor or best practices in the sustainability field.
  • Collaborate / support the team collection of relevant data/information from client and external businesses/sites to enhance sustainability data offerings.
Qualifications, Skills And ExperienceTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Primary (First) degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, or other area related to Environment, Health and Safety; Master’s degree desired
  • Must be able to drive
  • Willing to undertake up to 20% regional travel and occasional global travel
  • Must have Experience
  • Good written and spoken English skills and local language as needed
  • Experience (7 yrs) in Sustainability/ Corporate Responsibility
  • A Background in environmental or sustainability management/engineering
  • At least 5 years’ experience within medical devices or pharma industry or similar
  • Have experience working at a Management level.
  • Must be able to lead and shape action via influence at all levels, providing direction to Senior Managers, Directors and VP’s as, well as other EHS professionals.
  • Understanding and appreciation of the cultural differences of working with people across a range of EMEA countries
  • Good Presentation skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Desirable Experience
  • Must be able to represent Client's externally at medical device and cross industry forums, including diplomacy and care in handling of NGO’s
  • Knowledge of EU policy and legislation in the environmental and product stewardship areas, and an understanding of the EU decision making processes.
  • Qualified EMS auditor and/or experience in conducting environmental audits including CSR supplier audits
