At The Reading Group, (i.e., Spectrum Laboratories, Experimental Holdings), we are looking for a highly qualified Corporate Counsel to oversee the legal aspects of our business. This position reports to the Owner and is responsible for managing the ongoing legal responsibilities of the Legal Team and Company. The ideal candidate will be able to ensure the company is following all guidelines and laws to meet the needs of our entrepreneurial organization.

Responsibilities

  • Review, edit, and create documents for conveying information to both internal and external entities in a legally compliant manner.
  • Maintain and catalog legal documents and contracts for multiple entities to ensure accurate reference materials.
  • Assist in the development of corporate policies, procedures and programs and provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and legal implications of all matters.
  • Create documents/contracts pertaining to trademarks and other issues.
  • Maintain current knowledge of changes in pertinent legislation.
  • Manage commercial real estate transactions, closings, leases, and other agreements.
  • Give accurate and timely counsel to executives on a variety of legal topics.
  • Research and evaluate risk vs. reward factors regarding business decisions and operations.
  • Structure and manage the company’s internal legal function and staff.
  • Help evaluate and resolve litigation issues, cooperating with outside counsel when needed.
  • Manage outside counsel when needed.

Required Skills

  • J.D. degree with a minimum of 3 years Commercial Real Estate law experience
  • Proven experience as Corporate Counsel effectively operating within a business environment.
  • Experience with complex commercial real estate transactions, leases, and other agreements.
  • Experience in contract drafting and civil litigation – particularly in landlord/tenant, debt collection and breach of contract cases.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to coordinate and cooperate with multiple departments to streamline task completion.
  • Must enjoy working in a small business environment.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to multi-task, manage time constraints, and meet deadlines.
  • Good organizational skills, accurate and detail oriented, high degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Sound judgement and ability to analyze situations and information in a timely manner.
  • Easily adaptable to an ever-changing market.
  • Position is on-site and not eligible for hybrid work schedule.

Wages are negotiable within the competitive salary range set by The Reading Group. The ranges have been established based on organization, industry, and national standards. Desired salary expectations will be discussed during the interview process.
