Position: Business Development Manager
Location: Santa Ana, Orange County, California

Description: Spectrum Wine – a successful fine wine auction, retail, and storage firm in Orange County, California – is seeking an experienced, hard-working, motivated, and productive Business Development Manager to drive consignment business in its wine auction division. The Business Development Manager is a senior sales position responsible for continuously and comprehensively networking with global wine collectors and wine businesses to solicit, appraise, coordinate, and sign wine consignments for auction.
Responsibilities include:
- Selling Spectrum Wine’s auction (or direct acquisition) services to global collectors and wine businesses
- Continuously networking, communicating, and meeting with wine collectors, wine buyers, and various on- and off-premise wine businesses to identify and solicit potential auction consignors
- Accurately inventorying wine collections
- Accurately appraising wine inventories according to prevailing global wine auction prices
- Intelligently and incisively vetting prospective consignors’ storage and transportation conditions, acquisition histories, and sources
- Meeting monthly, quarterly, and yearly consignment value targets
- Keeping existing consignors updated as to their best strategies, results, payouts, and potential for future sales
- Coordinating wine collection packing, pickup, and logistics with the consignor and with the Spectrum Wine warehouse, logistics, and operations team
- Staying abreast of current trends and realities in the fine and rare wine market
- Coordinating all aspects of the consignment process from solicitation and initial appraisal to the completion of sale
- Assisting with and/or coordinating promotional or network-oriented client events, dinners, and/or tastings as needed
- Exhibiting and sharing an expansive knowledge of and studied expertise in the world’s fine wines and spirits with an emphasis on the great wines of Europe and California
Job requirements:
- A strong knowledge of and passion for fine, rare, collectible, and/or age-worthy wines, particularly those of France, Italy, Spain, California, Oregon, Washington, Germany, Portugal, Austria, and Hungary
- Substantial experience and expertise in the wine trade, including a minimum of 10 years of recent experience in wine retail, wine auctions, wine distribution, and/or a comparable arena of the wine trade
- A proven ability to consistently convert initial leads into consignments
- An acute attention to detail
- A strong ability intelligently to analyze, to organize, and to manage competing priorities while dependably completing projects according to hard deadlines
- Strong Internet, Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook), Google product (especially Google Docs), WineSearcher, WineMarketJournal, and other general computer proficiency
- A demonstrable ability to work and communicate well and fluidly with a small, busy team
- Strong, fluid, and natural communication, customer service, phone, email, and writing skills
- A strong and extremely self-motivated work ethic
- Integrity
- An ability to lift at least 40 pounds repeatedly and to work in busy, refrigerated (55°F / 12°C), and occasionally cramped cellar or warehouse environments
- Experiential elements that could prove advantageous include but are not limited to wine auction, wine sales, and/or wine director experience; existing wine auction consignment experience would prove extremely advantageous
