Spelman College is Hiring a Counseling/Psychotherapist 10 Months Near Atlanta, GA

Position Summary
This position reports to the Director of the Counseling Center and provides solution- focused brief therapy services to students, provides personalized plans designed to help students meet their short-term personal goals, shares the 24-hour on-call coverage throughout the year, participates in psychoeducational and out-reach activities, programming, and planning that ensures the effective and efficient delivery of services to students.
This position will also require the function of resource development, identification and updating of campus and community-based resources for clinical referrals, to support mental health service delivery and continuity of care. The ideal candidate will have the capabilities to operate consistently as a strong, yet flexible team member, with electronic mental health record skills, and to contribute to the construction of innovative techniques, strategies, and interventions, to support the behavioral health of students and to consult with members of the college community regarding behavioral health issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides confidential, short-term, student-centered, culturally responsive, and solution focused individual and group counseling to students who may be experiencing personal difficulties that interfere with their college adjustment and success.
  • Share 24-hour on-call coverage, which includes coordination of emergency, hospitalization and medication referral/consultation as needed.
  • Conducts walk-in, triage, and crisis services. Conducts biopsychosocial assessments, makes clinical recommendations for appropriate level of care, and supports the linkage of students to resources based on those clinical recommendations.
  • Maintains the timely completion of clinical documentation in accordance with professional standards and departmental requirements for documentation and storage of confidential files.
  • Develops and conducts training, workshops, and/or seminars for the campus community.
  • Participate in planning, programming and other activities that contribute to the smooth functioning and growth of the department.
  • Provide frequent updates to the Director on clinical work and any programs or projects under her/his charge.
  • Builds relationships with campus and community-based resources for clinical referrals, to support mental health service delivery and continuity of care.
  • Schedule individual supervision with the Director twice-monthly basis to discuss cases.
  • Also consult frequently with Director during crisis intervention as needed.
  • Serve on committees and participate in other activities within the Division of Student Affairs as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in social work, counseling/mental health, or related mental health field and 3-5 years of related experience required.
This position requires knowledge of systems approaches, women’s issues, and race and ethnicity issues. Incumbent should be particularly strong in working with African American women. The duties of this position require someone who has demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of a diverse population. The incumbent should be self- motivated, have high ethical standards, and be flexible in schedules and methods. This position requires the ability to work with minimum supervision.
This position requires the ability to read, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. The incumbent should be able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, faculty, staff, parents, regulatory agencies, or members of the general community. This position also requires the ability to effectively present information to administrators, faculty and the President.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have beginner skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Power Point, Word, and Excel) to produce correspondence, memos, e-mails, and maintain client records.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in college/university mental health services or administration preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, Restrictions
Must have all appropriate licenses to provide clinical services in the state of Georgia.
Must be a Georgia licensed mental health practitioner (Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: use hands to operate and handle office equipment, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to: walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to: stand, climb or balance, stoop or kneel or crouch, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
