Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager, is looking to fill a Site Safety Officer position to service our Great Lakes Bay market.

Responsibilities

• Communicate and work closely with company safety manager/director to create and maintain company safety guidelines and programs.
• Continuous inspection of project sites, to ensure a hazard-free environment and completing documentation of these inspections. Frequency of job site inspections are weekly to bi-weekly and are dependent on current work activities, manpower, owner requirements, etc.
• Promoting safe work practices on site.
• Solicit feedback from workers and use it to improve existing safety culture on site. 
• Enforcing company safety guidelines and programs.
• Establishing and maintaining health and safety communication structures.
• Assessment and approval of subcontractor safety plans.
• Verifying that all required safety reports/documentation are submitted by subcontractors prior to or during project as outlined in contract. 
• Conducting investigations on accidents and communicating information to company safety manager/director.
• Responding to workers’ safety concerns.
• Communicates with government departments in regards to safety.
• Verification of tools and equipment to ensure good quality.
• Maintains and manages documentation of safety data sheets.
• Occasionally attends project/foreman meetings and collaborates with project manager(s) and superintendent(s).
• Continuous monitoring of all company safety related documents, reports and issues to keep them updated. (i.e., daily equipment safety inspection, daily JHAs, daily safety huddles, weekly safety tool box talks, weekly safety inspection reports, substance abuse requirements).
• Be proactive and stay updated with the latest information regarding safety procedures which may require attending safety training programs.
• Coordinate and help provide health, safety and environmental training to employees on OSHA, EPA, MIOSHA, MDEQ, MSHA or other required industry topics.
• Ensure proper postings are current and present as required on site. (i.e., labor posters, 300a log, emergency call list, etc.).
• Respond to MIOSHA inspections. If possible be present during walk through. 
• Reports to Corporate Safety Director and local Project Director.
• In charge of running safety incentives programs with Safety Director.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• MIOSHA training preferred
• Current OSHA 30 certification preferred
• Procore proficiency preferred
• Degree preferred or relevant work experience
• 5 years safety experience
