Spherion is Hiring a City Tax Clerk Near Atlanta, GA

Under the supervision of the Assistant Finance Director, the purpose of this position is to provide excellent customer service to all citizens and perform all activities relating to tax administration.Duties include maintaining and updating customer accounts and billing records, and processing requests for City services. Prepare annual tax digest, prepare, and process real property and personal property taxes, other fees and services; review charge tax assessments, review and process tax appeals; prepare bills for mailing; adjusts inaccurate billings; prepare duplicate bills as needed; maintain and update all files and accounts.
Responsibilities:
Work independently but within the context of organizational expectations.
Recommend appropriate action to be taken following an investigation.
Attend specialized training.
Maintain/adjust property tax files and records.
Liaison with vendor(s) to manage the City's tax sales.
Research cash receipts, coding and posting of receipts.
Research and resolve payment discrepancies.
Research, manage and resolve unpaid current and prior year tax obligations.
Develop automated spreadsheets.
Organize and maintain up to date financial records.
Provide periodic financial and management reports.
Maintain telephone and personal contact with staff and vendors on receivable matters as directed by Assistant Director.
Update and maintain department website.
Read, use and is familiar with computer systems manuals and procedures.
Assist in financial management and analysis, as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Skills:
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office, including Excel, Access, and Word. Knowledge of financial processes, ability to communicate with clear and concise purpose, advanced analytical skills, strong critical thinking skills. Experience with real and personal property taxes is highly desirable.

MUST HAVE PROPERTY TAX experience! Preferred with Government (Local City, County or State)
Preferred

Associates degree; some college coursework in accounting, finance or related field is preferred; experience in customer service, utility billing, tax collection, accounting or closely related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
