Our Medical Device client in San Jose seeks an Estimator.
This is a 3-6 Month Temporary Assignment with possible extensions.
100% On-Site in San Jose, CA
About the Role:
This position is responsible for coordinating all quotations from start to finish. This role is also
responsible for sourcing components and services at the best price and lead time using the
customer’s requirements as a guide.
Responsibilities:
• Estimates costs of manufactured parts for customers by use of VISUAL
MANUFACTURING ERP system.
• Obtains quotations for outside services and materials either by direct contact with
suppliers or by requesting assistance of the Buyers.
• Consults with service or material suppliers to clarify requirements and negotiates best
pricing available. Generally, will consult with the Customer Service or Engineering
leadership to determine whether service quotes are reasonable prior to using them.
• Consults with production staff including supervisors, lead workers, planners, buyers and
others as necessary to determine the time required for completing complex or unusual
tasks.
• Consults ERP system to review pricing history and outside service cost history for parts.
• Submits quotes to the Customer Account Manager’s for review.
• Uses computer system to generate cost data and determines “actual cost” of completed
parts when a re-quote request warrants review.
• Communicates quotes to Customer Account Managers using printed quote letters and
spreadsheets.
• Manages log of all open quotes for estimating team in Excel.
Requirements / Skills:
• An excellent fabrication or machining background with promising skills in other areas or
estimating (a good background in estimating with VISUAL MANUFACTURING ERP
system and a demonstrated ability to learn the sheet metal/machining aspects of the
job).
• Requires some working knowledge of costs of painting, plating, silk-screening, and other
common sheet metal services.
• Requires some working knowledge of available sources of supply for sheet metal or
machining parts and services.
• The ability to manipulate numbers accurately and quickly is necessary.
• Must have a basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft applications.
• Requires the ability to read and understand blueprints and see the fabrication
implications of most details on sheet metal or machined parts.
• Should have good knowledge of fabrication or machining techniques and methods.
• Should be able to communicate well with sales, production, engineering and other staff.
• Must be able to recognize when a detail is not understood and to request assistance.
