Place of Performance: Fairfax, VA (with flexible remote options)

We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Lead Cybersecurity Policy Writer to spearhead the development and maintenance of comprehensive cybersecurity and privacy policies for our government client.

Position Description:

The Lead Cybersecurity Policy Writer will play a pivotal role in shaping the cybersecurity governance framework. This position involves leading the development, revision, and upkeep of critical cybersecurity and privacy policies, procedures, and related governance documents in alignment with federal regulations, cybersecurity frameworks, and best practices. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in cybersecurity policy formulation and a proven track record in managing policy lifecycle processes within federal agencies or large organizations. Collaborating closely with other cybersecurity experts, IT professionals, and various stakeholders, the Lead Writer will ensure that governance documents accurately reflect the clients strategic objectives, operational practices, and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Policy Development: Lead the formulation and continuous improvement of the government clients cybersecurity and privacy policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with national standards (e.g., NIST), federal regulations (e.g., FISMA, OMB directives), and industry best practices.
  • Governance and Compliance: Oversee the cybersecurity policy lifecycle, including the creation, review, and updating of policies and procedures to reflect changes in the cybersecurity landscape and federal mandates.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders across the client organization and external entities to gather inputs, facilitate policy adoption, and ensure that policies are practical, comprehensive, and enforceable.
  • Documentation Excellence: Ensure the highest quality of policy documents, with clarity, accuracy, and relevance, to support the client’s cybersecurity and privacy goals.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Lead a team of policy writers and collaborate with cybersecurity, IT, and compliance professionals to promote a culture of cybersecurity awareness and compliance throughout the client’s organization.
  • Training and Communication: Contribute to the development of training materials and communication strategies to disseminate policy information effectively across the organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: At least 7 years of experience in cybersecurity policy development, with significant experience in a leadership role managing policy initiatives for federal agencies or large, complex organizations.
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Law, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
  • Certifications: Preferred certifications include Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), or equivalent.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of NIST frameworks, FISMA, OMB directives, and other federal cybersecurity and privacy regulations and standards. Familiarity with the the client’s mission and IT security environment is advantageous.
  • Skills: Exceptional writing, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical issues in clear, concise language. Strong leadership and project management skills are essential.

Location:

This leadership position is based in Fairfax, VA, offering flexibility for remote work arrangements. The selected candidate will be expected to engage actively with government stakeholders and may be required to work onsite as project needs dictate.
