Spokane County is Hiring a Transfer Station Maintenance/Mechanic (OPEN & PROMOTIONAL) Near WA 99260, WA

This recruitment may be used to fill up to two positions working 40 hours per week. 
Positions allocated to this classification perform preventive and general maintenance, mechanical, and repair work on Transfer Station equipment, systems, and facilities under the direction of the Transfer Station Operations Manager.
WHO MAY APPLY: This recruitment is open to all applicants meeting the minimum requirements. Priority consideration will be given to Spokane County employees in a position covered by the PROTEC17 bargaining unit.
  • Performs general maintenance and cleaning tasks necessary to keep tools, equipment, and facilities in top operable condition.
  • Inspects, tests, troubleshoots, diagnoses, and services problems involving hydraulic, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems and equipment.
  • Responds to requests for repair of equipment, grounds, and facilities.
  • Consults with transfer station operators and other staff to obtain information on problems, to assist in diagnosing problems, or to prevent future problems.
  • Determines the parts, supplies, and equipment necessary for repair and assists in procurement.
  • Monitors inventory of parts and supplies and ensures adequate materials are available to conduct all work activities.
  • Operates transfer station equipment as necessary.
  • Maintains required service records, performs data analysis, and prepares reports as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as required. 
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in repair, troubleshooting, maintenance, and service of hydraulic and mechanical systems and equipment.
  • OR any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Formal training in heavy equipment mechanics and/or hydraulics preferred.
NOTE: Employees of this class are expected to respond to 24-hour call as necessary.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a valid driver's license at time of employment.
  • OSHA HazMat Certification required or obtained within 6 months
  • CDL B required or must be obtained within one year.
  • Knowledge of the practices and required equipment of the trade.
  • Knowledge of the principals and operations of hydraulic systems. 
  • Knowledge of Solid Waste operations, maintenance procedures, rules and regulations, safety hazards and precautions.
  • Knowledge of daily operational functions of a working transfer station as well as maintenance requirements of all equipment needed to run the facility in a cost effective and efficient manner.
  • Ability to read and understand complex electrical diagrams and circuits. 
  • Ability to complete complex tasks with minimum supervision and direction.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, pumps, generators and forklifts as required.
  • Ability to interpret and properly carry out general instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and the public.
