Spokane International Academy is Hiring a SIA - School Custodian (Substitute, 23-24 SY) Near Spokane, WA

Spokane International Academy is seeking a Substitute Custodian. This person will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining school property and surrounding grounds as needed. The custodian will utilize cleaning agents and equipment and will inspect equipment for cleanliness and functional operation as needed. Other functions include securing the facility and minor repairs. The Custodian is a member of the school's operations team and reports directly to the Director of Operations.
Spokane International Academy is a K-11th grade charter school that empowers its students with the academic skills, habits of mind and global competence necessary to complete advanced courses in high school and a college degree in order to become leaders who can powerfully transform our communities.
Major Responsibilities
  • Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities, and events (i.e., regular school, community education, special events.)
  • Cleans school facilities (i.e., classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, grounds, windows, restrooms, sinks, carpets, floors, garbage cans, waste cans, gym, cafeteria, and other areas as directed) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
  • Sanitize body contact areas daily: restrooms (floors and walls), sinks, toilets, urinals, and drinking fountains. Sweep and mop floors, dust, wash furniture, walls, fixtures, and windows. Properly apply floor products and replace lights. Be able to climb ladders when needed.
  • Sweep and wash (as needed) sidewalks and blacktop, spade up dirt around shrubs, chip ice and shovel snow off walks and steps, de-ice hard surface areas.
  • Delivers a variety of items (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture) for the purpose of distributing the materials to the appropriate parties.
  • Follows directions and informs supervisor/principal and other site personnel as needed, for the purpose of planning, organizing and providing information regarding activities, safety, and/or proper maintenance of facilities.
  • Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability, and ensuring safety at work site (i.e. unlock & lock doors, secure gates, check windows, turn lights and heaters off/on, set alarm system).
  • Repairs furniture and equipment for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
  • Requests custodial supplies, equipment, and other items needed for the purpose of safety and maintenance of facilities, supplies and inventory.
  • Maintains grounds and operates equipment as required (i.e. floor polishers, vacuums, carpet cleaners, floor strippers, waxers, lawn mowers, edgers, snow equipment, and hand and power tools)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Skills to use cleaning agents; supplies, and equipment; perform basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents; develop work orders, maintain records and relate well with people.
  • Knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials, equipment, supplies, and safe work practices.
  • Follow oral and written instructions, adhere to safe work practices, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, adjust to flexible assignments often with short notice, and communicate with students, staff, and parents.
  • Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping, bending, reaching/handling, climbing ladders, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception.
  • Operational telephone is required at or readily nearby an individual's residence for the purpose of immediate contact.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Present an image appropriate for modeling to students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of co-workers and students in a confidential manner.
  • Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Education required: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience is required.
  • Fingerprint clearance required.
Supervision
This position works towards a common operational goal and reports directly to the Director of Operations.
