We are seeking a dedicated and experienced educator to join our team at Spokane Public Dual Language Academy. As a dual language Spanish-speaking school, proficiency in both English and Spanish is essential. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish, with the ability to effectively teach in both languages.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in a dual language or immersion program.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Strong understanding of bilingual education principles and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with colleagues, students and parents.

Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate in the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a Spanish Immersion language program.
  2. Teach elementary and middle school content in Spanish.
  3. Organize instructional programs within the prescribed curriculum to provide for individual differences.
  4. Be able to effectively teach students of varying abilities.
  5. Be able to maintain classroom discipline and use effective classroom management skills.
  6. Utilize and maintain district/building curricular and student learning objectives.
  7. Prepare and maintain long-range and weekly lesson plans.
  8. Maintain appropriate student records.
  9. Work as an effective member of the department to evaluate and improve the program.
  10. Communicate and interpret school programs to patrons.
  11. Communicate student progress to parents.
  12. Be familiar with state essential learnings, district targets, qualifying standards, testing, etc.
  13. Work as an effective member of the grade level, staff, and community to evaluate and improve student learning.
  14. Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the building administration.
Qualifications

  1. Qualifies for a Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations. If possessing an initial or provisional certificate, the candidate must hold the appropriate endorsement.
    1. ELD endorsement preferred
  2. Fluency in both English and Spanish, with the ability to effectively teach in both languages. Bilingual - native speaker preferred but will consider fluent Spanish speaker.
  3. Familiarity with or willingness to acquire knowledge of language immersion models and curriculum.
  4. Cultural competency and ability to work comfortably in a diverse community.
  5. Ability to work successfully in a collaborative and cooperative teaching environment. Must be willing to be part of a teaching team.
  6. Experience in, or willingness to acquire knowledge in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.
  7. Experience in, or willingness to acquire knowledge in immersion pedagogical approaches.
  8. Demonstrates classroom management procedures that provide for large and small groups, and individuals, and provides an environment conducive to learning.
  9. Uses appropriate disciplinary procedures, establishes clear parameters for student behavior, responds properly when problems occur, and helps students toward self-discipline.
  10. Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral form.
  11. Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
  12. Enthusiastic and displays an overall optimism toward teaching and student learning.
  13. Assesses needs of students, prescribes and implements effective lessons to meet students' needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional skills.
  14. Gains the respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff through modeling appropriate demeanor, behavior, and attire.
  15. Sets and attains high level of expectations with a commitment to using available resources so that accomplishment and growth occurs.
  16. Develops favorable relationships with students; listens to, cares for, and works collaboratively with them.
  17. Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various disabilities.
  18. Demonstrates the ability to learn new ideas and skills and to solve problems; the possession of a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 is expected. (This requirement may be waived if an inadequate pool of fully qualified applicants for a specific position exists.)
  19. Aware of current educational developments and applications, works collaboratively with others; believes in the importance of education, and interested in the welfare of all students.
  20. Uses democratic processes to work out problems in a supportive and understanding non-authoritarian manner.
  21. Integrates technology into planning, learning, and record-keeping activities.
  22. Knowledge of effective teaching strategies related to the appropriate age of instruction. Demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge in a classroom setting.
  23. Willingness and commitment to participate in professional collaboration and student supervision.
  24. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators in a confidential manner.

  1. Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
  2. Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement () as negotiated.
