ABOUT YOUR ROLE

Sporting News is growing and is searching for a Product Manager to drive the day to day development and operations of both the website and its key strategic partnerships. In this role, you will work with globally distributed internal and external stakeholders to make Sporting News become the leading global digital sports destination with world-class product experiences for the modern sports fan.

This role will have exposure to all aspects of the business, from the tactical to the strategic. Your innate creativity combined with your product management experience and results orientation will enable the business to drive timely product and market decisions that will be crucial to achieving our goals. Over time you will set the bar for how we imagine, build, and deliver great products and define our product team as we grow.

HERE’S A BREAKDOWN OF WHAT YOU’LL (PRIMARILY) DO

  • Support the management of the Sporting News products and strategic relationships to ensure a world-class digital experience.
  • Help to manage the product backlog based on customer needs, market trends, and business goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, define success metrics, and validate product hypotheses.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications and user stories, working closely with data scientists and engineers.
  • Identify significant opportunities in what could be ambiguous areas and build consensus around roadmaps and how to evaluate success.
  • Undertake User acceptance testing (UAT) across each cycle to ensure a smooth product rollout.
  • Monitor and analyze product performance metrics, user feedback, and model performance to drive continuous improvement.
  • Stay across advancements in techniques, tools, and technologies, and identify opportunities to integrate them into products.
  • Display strong organizational and execution skills.

DO YOU HAVE THESE ESSENTIALS?

  • Proven experience as a Product Manager (ideally 2 – 3 years), with applicable digital product experience such as Sports, Media, Gaming or Entertainment.
  • Experience conducting user research and transforming the analysis into solutions and recommendations.
  • Ability to analyze data and metrics, draw conclusions and turn these into product solutions.
  • Adept at defining product capabilities and breaking these down into backlogs of well-formed user stories.
  • Skilled at communicating to clients, stakeholders and end-users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Ability to negotiate competing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Skilled problem solver

NOT ESSENTIAL BUT GREAT IF YOU ALSO HAVE

  • A passion for sports
  • Experience of Content Management Systems (we work with Drupal)
  • An understanding of UX in the context of web and app development
  • An understanding of Ad technology, Eg. GAM, Amazon TAM
  • Experience working within data protection regulations (e.g. GDPR) and related CMP tools.
  • Experience of working with third-party data in order to enhance the product experience.
  • Experience with gaming products.
  • Experience of working within a globally distributed team.
