Spring Branch Independent School DistrictJob DescriptionLead Custodian Job Title: Lead Custodian Reports To: Facilities Services, Custodial Operations Foreman, Supervisor and Manager Classification: Auxiliary (Skilled Labor) Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Days: 250 Salary: See Compensation Plan for Auxiliary Pay Plan, Pay Grade 302 Contract: None Date Revised: 11/15/2023 Primary Purpose: Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency of the building operations and grounds. Perform custodial work such as sweeping, moping, polishing floors remove trash, cleaning of furniture and perform minor maintenance repairs. Responsible for opening and closing of an assigned building during normal working hours, special school functions and emergencies. Qualifications/Skills: Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous custodial experience required.
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of custodial experience preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Ability to read, write and speak Basic English and Spanish.
  • Ability to receive, comprehend and carry out both written and oral communications.
  • Ability to work effectively with school administrators, students, staff, contractors, vendors and community.
  • Clean and neat appearance.
  • Physical ability to perform custodial work (Example: mopping, buffing, lifting up to 50 lbs., moving furniture, etc.).
  • Ability to work on eight (8) foot ladder.
  • Ability to operate custodial and related equipment.
  • History of strong work ethic, strong sense of integrity and respect.
  • Ability to work leading a custodial team, work alone and unsupervised.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities:
Custodial Management and Communication:
  • Execute necessary assignment changes to cover for absent employee(s) as the need arises.
  • Communicate with the foreman about custodial supply needs, equipment repairs, building concerns and custodial concerns.
  • Perform general cleaning such as; stripping floors, buffing, sweeping, dusting, mopping and scrubbing cleans windows walls, drinking fountains whiteboards and restrooms.
  • Pick up trash from grounds and sweep/blow entrance walk ways and sidewalks. Replace light bulbs and tubes. Set up and break down cafeteria tables.
  • Move and rearrange furniture, clean halls and replenish supplies as scheduled/needed. Assist with waste prevention, or careless use of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Cleaning and Safety:
  • Dispense and replenish custodial supplies.
  • Assure the building is locked and secured.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.,
  • Report all unsafe conditions and correct accordingly notify supervisor immediately if unable to correct.
  • Help keep tools and equipment in safe operating condition.
Other:
  • Perform regular custodial duties.
  • Keep grounds clean of trash and debris.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • When requested of a custodial supervisor, or foreman your work hours, assignment and location may change based on campus and district needs.
Supervisory
Responsibilities:
Monitor and direct the work of custodians as required and communicate effectively with foreman and supervisor. Equipment Used: Computer, auto scrubber, buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, leaf blower, electric drill, shampooer, power washer and hot water extracting equipment. Working Conditions: Mental Demands:
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.
Physical Demands:
  • Continual standing, walking, pushing, and pulling.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing (ladder), moderate lifting and carrying.
  • Occasional overtime required and sometimes mandatory in the event of emergency.
Environmental Factors:
  • Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and ladders.
  • Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials.
