Job Summary:An ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher's job involves teaching English to non-native speakers of the language. Their primary goal is to help students develop their English language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, depending on the students' proficiency levels.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:•Provide a nurturing, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages community and student responsibility and incorporates flexible learning strategies to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction to meet the needs of individual students. •Develop and deliver direct instruction lesson plans that utilize differentiated and appropriate ESL/SEI teaching techniques and strategies to student needs.•Able to work collaboratively with colleagues actively co-teaching and/or providing intensive small group pull-out direct instruction, depending on student needs. •Provide instruction in English that meets ELP Benchmarks and assists students in accessing the Academic Content to ensure that students meet/exceed learning targets.•Address all aspects of language through developmentally appropriate instruction in reading, writing, speaking and listening. •Administer academic and language (informal/formal/diagnostic) assessments to evaluate student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition, including state/federal-mandated testing (i.e. ACCESS Tests and/or MCAS exams)•Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress.•Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run a productive classroom and/or co-teaching environment to maximize learning time.•Communicate with families/administrators and other stakeholders through conferences and meetings using data and other means (verbal or written) to discuss students’ progress.•Participates in professional development activities consistent with the district's goals and needs of English Language Learners.•Oversee assigned out-of-classroom duties during the school day, as needed.•Performs related duties as required or assigned.
