Description:
Performs specialized library functions and serves as a team member to coordinate specialized service within departments of the Springville Public Library. This position will be assigned to the adult department. This position provides reference and reader's advisory services, and may coordinate or assist in special services such as: event programming, collection development, outreach and other services. Complies and prepares monthly and annual reports. Orders library materials for patrons and keeping with budgetary restraints. Due to the nature of this work and library hours, afternoon, evening, and Saturday work is expected.
Duties:
Review possible books and materials and place orders with vendors.
Represent the library and make financial decisions with minimum supervision. Maintain the collection by evaluating and reordering damaged and/or missing items. Create, prepare, and implement library programs for the public. Produce various reports, utilizing the computer system, and takes needed action. Responsible for financial and legal library operations. Oversee accounts payable and collections. Search for, writes and implements grants. Plan and present programs for the public. Make recommendations related to improving procedures. Attend training as needed Provide instruction to library patrons and staff for automated system, databases, computers and
other technology Complete special projects such as revising Library Policies, or preparing reports, presentations, etc. Compile all library statistics for the Annual State Statistical Report Work at the reference desk, assisting patrons with library questions. Complete library maintenance tasks as needed, i.e. inventory work, shelf reading, weeding, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned. Assist as a clerk when needed, which includes the following: Provides simple information and reference service using print and online sources. Provides reader's advisory service. Provides a full range of circulation services, including patron registration and transactions. Assists in creating promotional materials, writing reports, and maintaining files.

Qualifications:
Must have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience. Preference given to those with a Masters in Library Science or pursuing further education in the Library Science Field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the library's collection and reference materials and general library policies, practices and procedures Good communication and conflict management skills. Demonstrate time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to supervise and schedule the work of others. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other organizations and the general public. Provide basic reader's advisory and reference services. Respond positively to negative criticism from the public. Utilize computer hardware and software in the performance of duties. Skill in use of Microsoft Office programs and Quicken.
Physical Demands:
Performs duties that may include light physical effort such as lifting, bending, stooping, and walking. May require prolonged sitting or standing for up to four hours at a time according to the library's "roving reference" type services. Spanish language skills are a plus. Must be adaptable to changing work hours. Must be willing to work evenings and Saturdays. Occasionally may lift materials up to 40 pounds.
