Job: Barista/Server
Job Type: Non-Exempt Role Evening Shifts, some Day Shift when available
Reports To: Café Manager, Coffee/Shift Leads

Job Overview:
We are looking for a Barista/Server to prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including various types of coffee, tea, select beers & wines. This position is weekend based with some weekdays available. Part-time is available with full-time hours becoming available.

Barista responsibilities include educating customers on our drink, food, & pastry menus, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders. To be successful in this role, you should have customer service skills and knowledge of how brewing equipment operates. You should also be able to work various shifts.

Ultimately, you’ll ensure that all our guests have a legendary customer experience.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Customer Service. At Fairwave we expect our team to provide our guests with superior customer service standards.

  • Welcomes guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Educates customers by presenting and explaining the coffee drink menu, food, and pastry menus, answering questions.
  • Answers all phone calls in a professional friendly manner.
  • Engage in promotions set out by the company.
  • Prepares and sells beverages in a quick and efficient manner while following all proper recipes to the highest quality standards.
  • Generates revenue by attracting new customers, defining new and expanded services and products.
  • Dial in espresso
  • Sets pastry display
  • Crafts beautifully presentation of drinks.
  • Builds relationships with customers through coffee education and friendly engagement.

Operations. At Fairwave we ask our team to stay up to date on best practices to ensure that we are always operating at full capacity. Part of operations requires relationship building, so as a contributing team member you can effectively and efficiently communicate to peers and leaders and vice versa.

  • Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply, stocking coffee brewing equipment, maintaining supplies. Stocking, replenishing, & merchandising retail products.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, calling for repairs.
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
  • Follows all proper cash handling procedures.
  • Takes initiative to maintain visual appearance of the entire space.
  • Improves quality results by studying, evaluating, and redesigning processes, staying current with product & process changes, and maintaining & improving the appearance of the store and coffee bar.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading coffee retail trade and food service publications, maintaining personal networks.
  • Enhances coffee shop reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Follows all proper food and beverage safety procedures as outlined by the health department
  • Maintains all company standards as well as that requested by any of the company’s affiliates.
  • Maintains a positive attitude. Treat everyone with respect, including guests, coworkers, management, baristas, and production teams.
  • Thoroughly follows through with all daily, weekly, monthly cleaning assignments.
  • Frequent table touches for personalized guest experience.
  • Helps in other areas as needed. Such as running food, helping in the kitchen and dishwashing.
  • Follows all proper safety procedures.
  • Follows managers’ and supervisors’ instructions.
  • Communicates in a clear, professional manner.
  • Supports the management with any special requests or initiatives.

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior café or coffee shop experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with telephone, office, and point-of-sale software.
