Position: School Counselor
Reports To: Building Principal
Minimum Qualifications: Valid certification in Guidance and Counseling
Experience in the field of guidance and counseling
Supervises: Family Services and School Community Outreach Program
Job Goal: Operation of an efficient and effective F.S.S.C.O.P for St. Anne CHSD 302 students.
Terms of Employment: The high school School Counselor shall devote such time to
this position as needed to successfully complete the responsibilities
listed below.
Evaluation: The performance of the counselor shall be evaluated by the building principal or Special Services Coordinator in the same manner as other certified staff members.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Tiered Social Emotional Learning Intervention Support.
- Collaboratively work with school staff to meet students needs.
- Responsible for data collection and analysis and review.
- Coordinates parent training and supports.
- Responsible for direct student counseling and caseload management.
- Provide written contact and telephone calls to parents/guardians of students who are receiving support services.
- Provide individual and/or group counseling in areas dealing with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs/alcohol and other drug addiction issues, family relationships, financial problems, school attendance and peer relationships.
- Coordinate peer mediation.
- Participate in IEP meetings.
- Provide a link between students and appropriate community resources and outside agencies.
- Help resolve student/teacher conflicts by meeting with the student(s) and teacher individually or in groups to determine the nature and extent of the problem and to outline possible remedial strategies.
- Be knowledgeable of and provide information on community resources.
- Coordinate and assist outside agencies visiting the school and speaking to groups of interested students.
- Write letters of recommendation for students who want to enter post-secondary institutions or are applying for jobs.
- The School Counselor shall perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the supervisor.
