St. Anthony Shrine is Hiring a Safety and Security Supervisor Near Boston, MA

The Safety and Security Supervisor is the front line presence for the safety and security of Shrine constituents (friars in residence, worshippers, employees, volunteers, clients etc) responding to safety issues immediately with effective communication through a Francsican lens. The Safety and Security Supervisor must be aware of the daily schedule of Shrine activities (confessions, Mass, public meetings, ministry/program events, vendor visits etc). Manage perimeter and be able to respond and create and implement plans to address in response to security issues/threats that are tangent to the building.

This position is responsible for staff scheduling, training, coaching/supervision security staff and providing security coverage. Strong judgment, communication skills and critical thinking in complex situations are essential for this position.

St. Anthony Shrine, the “Church on Arch Street” is a center for Roman Catholic ministries in Boston, MA, staffed by the Franciscan friars of Our Lady of Guadalupe Province. The central focus of the Shrine’s ministry has remained constant for more than 70 years: providing a convenient and prayerful setting for people desiring to praise and worship our God – currently through 21 Masses per week, as well as an extensive schedule for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and many outreach and evangelical ministries.

St. Anthony Shrine serves a diverse population in both corporal and spiritual ministries.

St. Anthony Shrine is a prophetic Franciscan Catholic community welcoming all people through prayer and outreach. It is the responsibility of the Safety and Security Supervisor to work in accordance with this Mission.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Provide security coverage (complete rounds, complete checklist etc) and respond to emergencies that occur within the Shrine. Notify the leadership team of emergencies and submit incident reports.
  • Assess and triage security threats/issues, communicate and coordinate with internal and external partners including but not limited BPD, BID, BEST, BPD, DHS etc
  • Monitor and assess local/neighborhood issues and respond as needed. Attend monthly A1 BPD meetings.
  • Supervise security staff and provide training and resources as needed
  • Engage with individuals experiencing mental health crises, diminished mental capacity and/or substance use, utilizing de-escalation techniques and interventions that prioritize safety and dignity; be prepared to engage in direct physical contact if necessary, following safety protocols to protect both the individual and others.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new security staff
  • Create, update, and communicate monthly schedules for the security. Ensure consistent lobby coverage while the Shrine is open.
  • Check in and coordinate with facilities to grant access and escort vendors through the building to ensure building security for both vendors and Friars/Staff;
  • Assist the administration of the building access control system and managing keys for the building
  • Be aware of USPS mail and package/loading dock deliveries (drop-offs and pick-ups) with the information Booth attendant (lobby) and security staff; move items as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to the tasks outlined above, it is a requirement of the Safety and Security Supervisor to:

  • Work cooperatively with all other departments of the Shrine in order to enhance the Shrine’s public image, raise the Shrine’s public profile and encourage donor and volunteer engagement.
  • Contribute to fostering a culture of philanthropy at the Shrine.
  • Work in a collegial manner with staff and friars, in a manner that is consistent with our Franciscan Values in the Workplace, which are: service, humility, peacemaking, contemplation, and collegiality.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years minimum of experience working security
  • 1 year minimum of Supervisory experience required
  • Background in law enforcement, preferred
  • Trade Certifications and qualifications, preferred. Willingness to attend trainings and obtain relevant certifications (i.e. CPR/AED training).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Self-starter with good interpersonal skills and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Proficiency and experience with computers is required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent customer service and a willingness to work with the various stakeholders/population is essential for this role.
  • Able to stand, bend, and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must have some flexibility with scheduling with the ability to work some evenings, weekends and/or holidays as needed.
  • Work well with a diverse group of employees, Friars, volunteers and vendors.
  • Be punctual and able to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Be flexible and demonstrate a sound work ethic.
  • Be respectful, honest, and trustworthy and possess cultural awareness/sensitivity.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The Safety and Security Supervisor role requires spending time walking, bending and monitoring areas.
  • Must be comfortable with heights.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Professional office in a business/residential religious (Franciscan, Roman Catholic) building.

HOURS

40 hours per week; Early morning/1st shift Monday through Friday with flexibility to work late evenings, weekends and on call for emergencies as needed.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
