QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational:

California Teaching Credential, registered in a credential program and/or PhD

Professional: Preference given to applicants whose records show academic excellence in course work and experience in the Salesian educational system, participation in education-related activities, and dedication to teaching and professional involvement.

Religious Affiliation: Preference will be given to the Catholic educator.

Performance Responsibilities

Teacher Professionalism:

  • Creates a favorable climate for learning in the classroom so that each student is an integral part of the group and is encouraged to develop at an optimum rate in accordance with his or her level of maturity, ability and interests.
  • Exhibits an open-minded attitude toward exploration while promoting a love of learning as a lifelong pursuit.
  • Promotes harmonious human relations with colleagues, pupils, parents, and others in the community.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.

Instructional Planning:

  • Guides the learning process toward the communication and achievement of curriculum goals with established, clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepares for classes, and shows written evidence of preparation (e.g., lesson plans) to the department chair and administrators.
  • Develops lesson plans that include (but are not limited to): goals, assessments, assignments, methods, materials, references, sequence, homework, and activities.

Effective & Engaging Instruction:

  • Employs a wide range of creative instructional methods and uses materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Correlates classroom displays with current curriculum or seasonal topics.
  • Promotes engagement in the learning process and involves pupils in decision-making according to their academic level.

Classroom Management:

  • Maintains a well-organized classroom to allow for purposeful activities. The teacher develops reasonable rules for classroom behavior and procedure.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct as outlined in the student-parent handbook and the staff handbook.

Professional Attitude:

  • Maintains and improves professional competencies, and provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct student records as required by administration and department chairpersons (grades, attendance, discipline, seating, etc.).

Salesian Education System:

  • Associates with students outside of class time, and is available to meet with students outside of class.
  • Supports school special events, extracurricular activities and Catholic identity. The teacher voluntarily assists with activities, including Catholic religious activities such as retreats, liturgies, prayers, feast day celebrations, and Triduum.

Assessment: The President/Principal and Associate Principal will evaluate the teacher each semester. All administrators are encouraged to visit all classrooms throughout the year.

Pay: $42,998.00 - $80,098.00 per year
