St. George Spirits is Hiring a Harvest Production Apprentice Near Alameda, CA

Position SummaryThis is a temporary, paid, full-time or part-time position based at a distilled spirits manufacturer in Alameda, California. Shifts will be three to five days per week, or approximately 20 to 40 hours per week. Most work takes place on weekdays during primary business hours, but often early morning or late shifts will be needed during harvest. A flexible schedule to work early mornings or evenings as well as availability on weekends is an important attribute for the right candidate(s). The length of employment is approximately three to six months depending on the timing of harvest. Under supervision from the Distiller, the Harvest Production Apprentice is responsible for assisting in day-to-day production, processing, and storage operations of the distillery by performing a wide range of tasks and projects. This position is responsible for providing team-oriented support within the production department. This is considered an introductory and temporary position wherein task management and developing an understanding of department best practices and standard operating procedures are paramount to the success of the role. All St. George Spirits employees are expected to perform their job in a safe manner and report any safety concerns to management.
Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Familiarity with spirit categories as well as St. George products.
  • Ability to safely navigate production space with heavy machinery and physical obstacles.
  • Perform appropriate cleaning procedures to ensure a sanitary and organized production space
  • Gauge and measure products for transfers, batch building, and inventories.
  • Appropriately dispose of solid waste created by production activities
  • Assist in equipment and hardware maintenance.
  • Sort fruit and botanicals for quality control
  • Knowledge of and adherence to safe operations and procedures, (site specific training provided)
  • Other duties as assigned by management
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)
  • Prefer 1 year of brewing, winemaking, and/or distilling experience OR restaurant/culinary experience
  • College degree preferred, high school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong verbal communication skills oriented towards detailed team coordination
  • Basic understanding of chemistry, algebra, mechanical systems and basic knowledge of the food and beverage culture and production
  • We require an individual who can think critically, multitask effectively, and operate without constant supervision

  • Ability to constantly move about all areas of the facility in frequently loud conditions
  • Ability to frequently climb stairs ascend/descend, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and balance
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. weight
