Responsibilities

Performs a variety of duties relating to the maintenance of the Hospital building grounds and unskilled maintenance and minor repair work to the Hospital physical plant and facilities.

Performs all duties required in the maintenance of hospital grounds. Maintains lawn areas, shrub plantings (beds), trees, parking lots, walkways, etc.

Mows turf and edges using hand and power equipment. Operates exterior sprinkler watering system to maintain lawns and grounds.

Maintains sidewalks and Hospital grounds free of rubbish and snow. Prioritizes and schedules the building grounds repair work with supervisor.

Secures materials, supplies and equipment. Mixes and applies fertilizers, soil conditioners, weed control materials and other chemicals in correct proportion under the guidance of a supervisor.

Operates and performs preventative maintenance on power equipment, such as tractors and accessory equipment, pole saws, pruning equipment, power vacuums and blowers, chain saws, snow removal equipment and power sprayers.

Sweeps sidewalks, court yards and walkways using hand or power tools. Prunes trees, shrubs and other plants / trees. Performs all duties related to litter pick-up, leaf removal and general clean up of areas.

Performs minor construction and repair work on exterior retaining walls, fences, walkways, parking lots, tables, benches, etc.

Painting of items, such as railings, guardrails, striping of parking lots, etc. and other repairs related to the hospital grounds.

Installs flagstone, granite block, and secures other paving materials. Under supervision, assistant in performing maintenance and basic repair services on all Hospital internal infrastructures;

provides general assistants to maintenance mechanics and trades. Reports on problems and completes service requests forms indicating work performed.

Performs preparatory work or maintenance activities, including gathering equipment, materials, and supplies; loading and unloading materials.

Performs a variety of routine physical labor tasks depending on the area of assignment, including picking up tools, spills, and debris, cleaning work area, and discarding equipment materials.

Serves as maintenance worker / helper performing minor building maintenance as needed throughout the hospital campus. Duties include but are not limited to hanging pictures, maintenance and minor repair of office furniture, lube chair rollers and wheel bearings, install toilet tissue, towel and soap dispensers.

Install bulletin boards and chalk boards. Replace light lens and tubes. Makes minor repair to wall surfaces and does touch up painting.

Assist in containing emergency floods and performs emergency clean-up. Maintains tools, equipment and work area in clean, safe and orderly condition.

Qualifications

High School graduate or High School Equivalency Diploma preferred. Must possess valid driver’s license and good driving record appropriate for the type of vehicles operated.

1 year of advanced trade school or 3 years of related experience in the maintenance field required. Familiarity with tools, methods of many trades as well as knowledge of building and safety codes.

Strong communication skills and problem-solving ability required. Must also possess good motor skills and dexterity.
