St. Jude Regional School in Rockville Maryland is seeking a librarian for the 2024-2025 school year.
To provide students and staff with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety of books that will foster in all students a lifelong love of reading.
Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates the school library program, policies and services. Curates the school library collection of books.
Encourages students to read by sharing quality literature during library classes and during open library time. Collaborates with teachers in implementing integrated instructional activities.
Selection and Acquisition of Resources Reviews professional journals, blogs and other media to review books for inclusion in the library collection. Develops a budget for the purchase of library books and materials. Purchases new books for the library. Organization and Maintenance of Resources Classifies, catalogs and organizes the library collection for maximum accessibility and availability. Weeds obsolete and worn materials from collection. Updates the inventory of contemporary library books using Follett Destiny. Maintains the Follett Destiny system for circulating and retrieving books. Instructional and Curriculum Support Collaborates with teachers in implementing integrated instruction for Pre-K through 4th grades. Reads a wide variety of literature, during library class, to Pre-K through 4th grades. Serves as information specialist to assist teachers and students in the selection of books. Coordinates selection of books for reserve collections and/or classroom collections for special units of study. Coordinates promotional library activities such as summer reading and book fairs. Promotes life-long reading and learning by fostering positive attitudes towards libraries and by working to develop students’ listening skills.
Professional Growth Participates in professional development activities relating to librarianship (Independent Catholic Library Association) and education.
