St. Louis County, MO is Hiring a Police Intelligence Analyst Near Clayton, MO

An employee in this job class is responsible for performing work of considerable difficulty in the collection, analysis and preparation of intelligence information and reports. Work involves assisting investigators in enhancing criminal investigations within the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons, by use of data analyzing skills. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the Commander, Bureau of Crimes Against Persons.
Duty Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with flexibility to meet Department needs.

Per the Department's Collective Bargaining Agreement, newly hired employees who do not possess corresponding experience will start at the base starting pay listed in this posting.

Examples of Duties

  • Reviewing police reports to determine crime trends and related suspects.
  • Extensive intelligence gathering from all social media platforms, to assist in identification of suspects and their associates.
  • Reviewing video footage from multiple sources and preparing written documentation of the findings.
  • Reviewing jail telephone calls made by suspects/defendants and documenting the conversations.
  • Utilizing a vast array of computer programs to link cases together.
  • Creating timelines on criminal cases.
  • Locating associations between involved parties.
  • Gang file administration.
  • Collaborating with other agencies in intelligence gathering and sharing.
  • Analyzing and distributing statistical information as required.
  • Perform related work for the Division of Criminal Investigation as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Considerable knowledge and skill in computer software utilizations to include Microsoft Office programs, virtual meetings, and communication systems.
  • Considerable knowledge in the use of computer programs such as NLETS, NCIC, MULES, and REJIS.
  • Considerable knowledge in IP Data review and analysis.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods and practices of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
  • Considerable knowledge of police department organizations, functions, and operations.
  • Considerable skill in organization and effective use of available resources.
  • Ability to quickly establish and maintain effective and productive relationships with law enforcement officials, outside agencies, private sector corporations and businesses.
  • Ability to utilize analytic software to review and analyze historic cellular telephone records.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Skill in operating a motor vehicle in a safe and prudent manner.
  • Skill in maintaining records and preparing clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures involved in criminal investigations.
  • Ability to establish goals and set priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle conflicting priorities/work schedules to meet challenging deadlines.

Training and Experience
:
Graduation from high school or GED. Completion of coursework or training in Sociology, Criminal Justice or a related area with experience performing criminal intelligence duties comparable in level of responsibility to those of an Intelligence Analyst and at least two years of experience in a law enforcement agency performing duties related to the analysis of criminal intelligence information; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Special Requirements
:
  • Must have demonstrated a positive attitude and good working relationship with other employees as well as the public.
  • Must possess a valid State driver’s license.

Additional Information

CITIZENSHIP: Citizen of the United States or valid work permit, and apply for citizenship when eligible.
AGE LIMITS: Eighteen (18) years of age at the time of appointment.
EDUCATION: Educational requirements and skills will be determined by the position classification.

ARREST: Must be free from conviction of a felony or a Class "A" misdemeanor.
MILITARY: Must not have a "Dishonorable" discharge or "Bad Conduct" discharge if having served in the military. All "Other Than Honorable" discharges will be reviewed on an individual basis.
COMPETITIVE SELECTION PROCESS
Under the regulations of the Police Department, all appointments to the St. Louis County Police Department are made on the basis of a continuously open, competitive hiring process conducted under the supervision of the Personnel Services Unit. Each applicant must successfully complete each stage of the selection process before becoming eligible to proceed to the next step.

Employees hired for full time employment will participate in the St. Louis County retirement plan where they contribute 4% of their salary to the defined benefit plan with vesting after 7 years. Other benefits include: paid life insurance, a credit union, 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, pre-tax premium pay plan, dependent care and medical expense reimbursement plans, and short and long term disability insurance.
In addition to these benefits, as of January 1, 2023, St. Louis County approved up to 480 hours of paid parental leave for eligible employees welcoming new children, either by birth or adoption. The employee can also take up to 80 hours of leave for prenatal care and up to 80 hours for care of the child within the first year.
