St. Louis County is Hiring a Corrections Officer (On Call) Near Clayton, MO

Apply for these open on call positions.
Positions are assigned to the Justice Center located in Clayton working third shift. The position will pay $18.10 per hour with no benefits.
Third shift will work an 4 - 8 hour shifts depending on departmental needs. Sample shifts are; 10:00pm-2:00am and 2:00am-6:00am or 10:00pm-6:30a.m.
Applicants may work up to 28 hours per week.
These positions will have minimal inmate contact.
There will be 80 hours of paid training. The hours of the training will vary based on departmental needs and applicant availability
(80 hours of training (2 weeks) = 48 hours of training in classroom & 32 hours of on the job Training this also includes CPR training)The primary duties are regular security check of inmates in their living area while they are lockdown inside their cell.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required. 
  • 1 year of progressive corrections/security experience required 
  • Must be 19 years of age. 
  • Clear police record.*

*Free of felony convictions and A Misdemeanors have to be approved for hire by the Director of Justice Services.

Physical Requirements: Extensive standing, walking, climbing stairs at least eight times daily per shift, using and lifting emergency equipment (fire extinguisher, AED, pepper spray, taser etc), bending, stooping, pulling, pushing, reaching overhead, continuously wearing an equipment belt, using a breathing apparatus, listening for possible disturbances, observation of required areas.

The selection procedure will include but is not limited to the following:

  1. Satisfactory completion of an employment application.
  2. Selection for the interview based on minimum qualifications from the employment application.

All applicants conditionally offered a position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be borne by the County.
